A Child's Geography Vol. 3: Explore the Classical World

This book is a combination of stories, fun activities, recipes, maps, and amazing pictures, all rolled into one easy-to-use textbook with a schedule in the front and discussion points and worksheets throughout. The richly descriptive writing style, combined with brilliant photos, makes us feel like we are right there touring with the author, while the history, geography, and culture of each area are presented in an engaging and interesting way. Biblical worldview is again a strong suit as we have come to expect from Master Books. This book offers a fun way to embark on a journey to faraway lands from the convenience of our own home with multiple ages and abilities, making special memories along the way! It’s especially fun that we know people from some of the areas in this book and can link our studies with their personal experiences and photos!

We loved the Holy Land and this next one does not disappoint! We were excited about it so we started early. We are taking our time and researching some things further online (ex: Crete, trireme, Minoans, Frescoes, etc. Doing this helps my son retain more. Tomorrow we make our fresco and before we know it, we will be making some Almond Macaroons!

Kids enjoyed it and told me all kinds of facts while they were going through it.

This book is so colorful and engaging. The content is written in a living book style. There are many full-color stunning pictures, diagrams, and maps included. It also includes hands-on activities and worksheets. There are even recipes which is one of our favorite ways to help our children remember what they learn in geography and history.

We have loved every book in the A Child’s Geography series, and this is no exception. Geography has always been a boring subject for us before we found this series. Now my kids and I all look forward to geography each day! I especially love how the text is Christ-centered and includes relevant church history as well. The curriculum is well laid out, and includes a suggested daily schedule to complete the year long course in 3 days a week. Supply lists for activities and shopping lists for recipes are included as well. This is definitely an open-and-go curriculum for us.

The text is interesting and engaging, and the pictures are rich and plentiful. Throughout the chapters, the activities are varied among written worksheets, timelines, maps, travel logs, recipes, crafts, and more. The different activities help your kids to become immersed and engaged with the countries and cultures that you study, making everything come to life.

As a big fan of the series A Child’s Geography, I was so excited to see that Volume 3, Explore the Classical World, had been updated. This series is phenomenal; my kids have loved going through it!

This course is set up to follow a 36 week schedule, 3 days a week, at about a 4th grade level. I find the context to be age appropriate, but also flexible enough for use in family learning with different ages and levels of learning.

One of the reasons I have enjoyed using this series is that it is very open and go. Any materials or supplies that you need are listed by chapter at the beginning of the book. The text is set up in a way that each chapter is divided into each day’s readings, and the adventure challenges are typically on stand-alone pages. This is great for those who buy the digital format - so easy to just print out the worksheets!

At the back of the text, chapter reviews are included that can be used for additional worksheets or as graded quizzes. A final exam is also included. The answer keys for all adventure challenges, chapter reviews, and the final exam are all found at the end of the book.

I appreciate the variety of activities throughout this course, it is never boring! It is very hands on and interactive. My kids loved the travel journal that was at the end of each chapter that allowed them to reflect on the leg of the journey they just finished. Activities include map work, creating a timeline, cooking recipes from the various countries, and many more, all with a biblical worldview woven through.

This course is a great addition to any homeschooling family. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a biblically sound geography course that will keep your kids excited for their next journey!

I have gone through a couple of other books in the A Child's Geography series. Explore the Classical World is the 3rd in the series and it is amazing. The pictures and written materials are very detailed. Terri Johnson did an amazing job writing and creating this book.

It goes from Greece to Italy and many places in between. The maps and pictures alone are worth every penny but the "Adventures", or activities, are a lot of fun as well. My favorite part is the recipes that are included in each section. The book includes a grocery list as well as a list of supplies for the activities located at the beginning. It makes it much easier to find as we are reading along.

I love how the author wrote it as if we are actually on an adventure to these far away places. We actually get to see how the every day people lived and worked. It makes you feel like you are a part of the story. My children love this type of narrative. Also included in some of the lessons is a Learning the Language section. The author uses Bible verses to allow the readers to learn a new language. I find this very fascinating and exciting.

I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a history or geography course for 4th-6th graders. It is easy to read and understand and the activities and amazing recipes will have your students begging to do more lessons.

This Geography course is so well written. The way the author wrote this course is so engaging, especially for children. The colorful pictures help tell the story of each country and enhance learning. One great example is in the last Chapter on Malta they show a picture of a scuba diver looking at a shipwreck. This opened my kids' imaginations to want to deep dive into more learning.

This course is so versatile in the ways you can teach, from a single child to family style. This course is awesome I recommend it.

Absolutely love this curriculum! Recommended for grades 4-6, yet easily adaptable for all ages; even I found it exciting and interesting for myself!
