Customer Reviews
This curriculum offers an age-appropriate introduction to science for younger ages and covers many branches of the subject, including life sciences (plant life, zoology, and human anatomy/physiology), earth science, and even astronomy. This is all accomplished with a Christian worldview. In fact, one of my favorite characteristics of this curriculum is that it covers the story of Creation from the Book of Genesis. When I first realized this, I thought, "how clever and what an amazing idea," since God accomplished so much in those seven days. The lessons expand on all of creation by extensively breaking down everything that had went into it. For instance, when children cover the second day of creation, they learn about water, clouds, and weather patterns. When they get to the third day of creation, they will learn all about plant life, so on and so forth. There are plenty of lessons to touch up on for each day of creation, so that the book covers an entire school year.
Master Books has become one of our favorite curriculum suppliers. The books are always so organized and they really take all of the guesswork out of planning. The beginning of the book contains a complete listing of all supplies that will be needed throughout the school year's lessons. There's even a schedule already set up, which consists of three lessons per week. I also appreciate that there are interactive activities to help my son with scripture memorization. The "Imagine That!" sections are neat, since they offer fun fictional stories that are inspired by Biblical events. These help add to our conversations about science. I also really like how the lessons are laid out for younger grades, so they don't overwhelm children. The topics and learning activities are both fun and appropriate for my child's learning level. Most of all, we can sit down at each lesson and gain a greater appreciation for all of the Lord's magnificent creation during those seven days!
One unique feature of the curriculum is the Bible-inspired fictitious stories of Adam and Eve talking to their children about God and His creation. We've enjoyed evaluating the stories after we read ("What do you think? Did this really happen? Would they have discussed __?"), and it's brought out some excellent conversations.
