Theology for Littles
Review by JC
I love that they expanded this series. It is good theology explained in simple terms, but it is NOT watered down. Children can understand more than they are often given credit for, and faith is simple to them.
The purpose of the church is very well explained here. Even many mature Christians see church attendance as merely a duty, and fail to see how God has given us a family through it. We are to be fed, minister to one another, grow, and most importantly reach others for Christ. This book is a helpful tool for showing your children or class what God intends for the church to be, and how they can be a part of it.
Easy to understand

The Church is a wonderful addition to the Big Thoughts for Little Thinkers set. It does a wonderful job of explaining what The Church really means, something that is often not explained well even to adults.
Excellent book about the church!
Review by JoyfulMommy
This book has been a springboard to some great conversations with our children! The author explains the church as our spiritual family, also defining the difference between the worldwide and local church. He covers topics like caring for the brethren, giving, prayer, worship, Bible study, fellowship, offices in the church, use of spiritual gifts, and evangelism. The symbolism of the ordinances is well explained for both Believer’s baptism and the Lord’s supper (bread and juice if anyone is wondering), along with the analogies used in Scripture describing the church. I will say, I do not care for the final page stating we will all be in heaven for a huge party, because I believe heaven will be so much more than that as we worship our Savior and rejoice in His presence! But even that is a good conversation starter, so I do heartily recommend this book and the others in this series!
Simple and clear
Review by Building on the Rock
A simple and clear way to explain the function of the Church to young ones. The pictures are attractive and thoughtful in their presentation.
Fun read!
Review by LaceeC
I really appreciate that this book covers that we are created for community, that we need our church family for our spiritual health. We are called to be together with other believers. I am grateful there are verses on each page to look up in addition to the words on the page for the kids. It is easy enough for an emerging reader to read, but still brings such amazing truth that an adult can learn something too!
Introduces children to the importance, purpose and identity of the Church.
Review by Kathleen C
The book emphasizes that the Church is not a building but a community of believers who love and follow Jesus. The teaching is rooted in Scripture and reflects a sound evangelical understanding of the Church as the body of Christ, united by faith and called to worship, fellowship, grow in the Word, and serve others. Children are encouraged to see themselves as active participants, even at a young age, fostering a sense of belonging and responsibility. Like the other books in the series, this volume uses kid-friendly language and colorful illustrations to keep young readers interested. The visuals help reinforce key concepts in a memorable way. An excellent resource to instill a love for the Church in early life.
A great book for children
Review by Amy
Big Thoughts for Little Thinkers: The Church is a clear and engaging way to teach young children about God’s design for the Church. It’s simple, meaningful, and perfect for little hearts and minds. Just one note—I’d love for the children to be drawn with five fingers instead of four. I always end up adding the fifth!

Great Resource
Review by Santina
Big Thoughts for Little Thinkers The Church is a great addition in the series and explains the church in an age appropriate and understandable way. The Bible references at the bottom of each page are a great way to involve older children as they can read and then look up the corresponding Bible verses. This would make a great addition to a morning basket or to read and discuss two or three pages each day.
Phenomenal book about the church!
Review by Michelle C.
This book does a phenomenal job at explaining what God’s church is and should be according to the Bible! My husband and I have been in church ministry for almost 20 years and this is one of the best children’s books about the church I think I’ve ever seen. It discusses different parts of the church body and how Christians should live. This book can be used to teach the importance of being a committed member of a church body and how we were never meant to do this Christian walk alone.

I really appreciate that this book is not about the church being a physical building with four walls. It discusses how the church is like a family, a flock of sheep, a bride, a building and a body. It then goes a little deeper into each of these concepts for children to understand. It can be very common for church members to get caught up in the details of how church should be, but this book discusses the priorities and what we should focus on. I highly recommend this book to children of all ages, and I even would suggest it to adults. Sometimes, Biblical truths that are taught in a children’s book can be the simplest way for adults to learn what’s important.
Great Reminders For All
Review by Charity
This little book about the church is a great reminder of the significance of gathering together with other believers. As someone in a ministry position, it is easy to get carried away with all of the responsibilities that come with that role. Reading this book with my children was a great reminder for all of us what the church is really about.

My kids loved the colorful illustrations and they enjoyed seeing some of their favorite characters from the other books in this series. We especially appreciated Pigtail Girl's new look (the main character from The Mission ).

I am so glad that Master Books has produced more books in the Big Thoughts series. They are such a wonderful resource for explaining these big ideas in a way that littles can understand. Be sure to check out the new books on Heaven and Jesus as well!
