There are so many benefits of learning to write in cursive! Cursive writing has been shown to have a positive influence on children’s spelling, their composition skills, motor skills, and word recall. It has also been shown to support the reading and writing skills of students with dyslexia. Catch on to Cursive is a 36-week, elementary-level cursive curriculum that includes two schedules, so younger and older students will both benefit from the material.

Your student will join Skeeter, Anna, and Susie on a fun writing and fishing adventure. Through full-color worksheets and exercises, your student will learn to recognize and create precise letters. This unique, whole-child approach is a fun and unforgettable way to learn cursive penmanship.

Within the course, your students will:

  • Earn badges for their work
  • Complete fun activities and projects to develop muscle control
  • Review each letter throughout the course
  • Learn attributes of Christ’s disciples as fishers of men
  • Grow spiritually
  • Experience the wonder of God’s creation

Every letter will be covered for three days. On the third day, there is a weigh-in section, and every few weeks, students will participate in a Fishing Derby or Gear Up activities where they review letters they have learned up to that point. This gives a fun way for built-in review and builds up their confidence. Watch for Weigh-In challenges throughout the course so they can complete the challenges.

Scribes of God's Word
Review by Danyele
My heart's desire as my children's teacher is to immerse them with God's word and this curriculum helps me with this. I also am teaching cursive first and this curriculum is great for teaching my 5 and 7 year how to write and write without labor. I want the first words my children are writing to come from God's word and I have been able to accomplish this through this curriculum. I do enjoy a lot of the crossing the midline activities and the body strengthening exercises and the hand strengthening activities. Toward the end of the book I started skipping some because my kids were able to develop the skill. I also expedited the schedule by doing three pages a day, but our main focus for school has been to learn how to write without labor. They have beautiful handwriting. My only qualm with the curriculum is that I wish it taught all the lowercase letters first then the uppercase letters, but for the most part they did stick with that except for a 2 lowercase letters at the end and a handful of uppercase letters at the beginning. So not a deal breaker for me. Just wished all lowercase were taught first. Also, noticed that a handful of the tracing and extra activities in the back of the book had them writing letters they hadn't learned yet, but a very small detail that didn't matter too much. Overall, I highly recommend this cursive curriculum and plan to use it with my next three when they are ready to start school. Thank you Masterbooks for providing a curriculum immersed with God's word.
Fun and effective!

Fishing Derby
Review by Lesson 15
My son requested this course, he wants to write like me. But he was devastated that his “best work” would not reflect what was on the page… letter “k”is introduced in chapter 16 and the word leak was in the Fishing Derby for chapter 15… other than that we have been having a blast with this course, and he is doing amazing with his handwriting. He learned his name first so some “new letters” were just review. We have fun exploring the different fishing terms and animals brought up in class too.
Great

I didn't think my kid could handle this on top of all of his work, but he is doing a lot better than I could teach him without any curriculum. LOVE THIS
Perfect

love this handwriting
Review by Annamarie
My son loves this handwriting book. Not only does it teach him how to properly write each letter in cursive, it also teaches him so much about fish and fishing. This handwriting is fun and entertaining while teaching him new concepts.
Good, but could be better
Review by Amanda
I think the curriculum really is great and makes Cursive interesting for my child. She really is catching on quite well. One major downside to this book is that all the cursive writing part is done on the left side of the pages when it is open. Thats the side with the floppy cover. We keep having to put another book underneath to provide a flatter surface for writing. This portion should be on the right hand page where it lays flat or this should be sprial bound. I think I will have our copy spiral bound to make it easier for her.
