There are so many benefits of learning to write in cursive! Cursive writing has been shown to have a positive influence on children’s spelling, their composition skills, motor skills, and word recall. It has also been shown to support the reading and writing skills of students with dyslexia. Catch on to Cursive is a 36-week, elementary-level cursive curriculum that includes two schedules, so younger and older students will both benefit from the material.

Your student will join Skeeter, Anna, and Susie on a fun writing and fishing adventure. Through full-color worksheets and exercises, your student will learn to recognize and create precise letters. This unique, whole-child approach is a fun and unforgettable way to learn cursive penmanship.

Within the course, your students will:

  • Earn badges for their work
  • Complete fun activities and projects to develop muscle control
  • Review each letter throughout the course
  • Learn attributes of Christ’s disciples as fishers of men
  • Grow spiritually
  • Experience the wonder of God’s creation

Every letter will be covered for three days. On the third day, there is a weigh-in section, and every few weeks, students will participate in a Fishing Derby or Gear Up activities where they review letters they have learned up to that point. This gives a fun way for built-in review and builds up their confidence. Watch for Weigh-In challenges throughout the course so they can complete the challenges.

Fishing Derby
Review by Lesson 15
My son requested this course, he wants to write like me. But he was devastated that his “best work” would not reflect what was on the page… letter “k”is introduced in chapter 16 and the word leak was in the Fishing Derby for chapter 15… other than that we have been having a blast with this course, and he is doing amazing with his handwriting. He learned his name first so some “new letters” were just review. We have fun exploring the different fishing terms and animals brought up in class too.
Great

I didn't think my kid could handle this on top of all of his work, but he is doing a lot better than I could teach him without any curriculum. LOVE THIS
Perfect

My daughter loves this book and she has beautiful cursive now!
love this handwriting
Review by Annamarie
My son loves this handwriting book. Not only does it teach him how to properly write each letter in cursive, it also teaches him so much about fish and fishing. This handwriting is fun and entertaining while teaching him new concepts.
Good, but could be better
Review by Amanda
I think the curriculum really is great and makes Cursive interesting for my child. She really is catching on quite well. One major downside to this book is that all the cursive writing part is done on the left side of the pages when it is open. Thats the side with the floppy cover. We keep having to put another book underneath to provide a flatter surface for writing. This portion should be on the right hand page where it lays flat or this should be sprial bound. I think I will have our copy spiral bound to make it easier for her.
Excellent Cursive Practice
Review by Kathleen
My daughter and I really love this book. I love it because it makes my daughter (who normally rushes through her work) take her time and really practice each letter and different letter connections. My daughter loves it because of the challenges, the overall fishing theme, and the fact that it’s making her cursive handwriting much neater than it was before. This book is a total winner!
Love outdoors? This one is great
Review by Best ever cursive book
My son loves this cursive book even though he hates writing cursive. He likes learning all the tips and things that have to do with fishing, and I like that they have little exercises throughout to strengthen little fingers that are more game based. I would like them to do a few more dotted things to trace on each line but overall this is a favorite and I wish I'd seen this one before I bought my older son his cursive book at the store, he would've really enjoyed this one more! Christ fishing and cursive...great combo :)
Love this curriculum!
Review by Kelsey
My son has struggled with writing in print and he had been asking and asking to start cursive instead and we absolutely love this curriculum! He's done so well with it!
Definitely recommend! It's fun!
Review by My son loved this during summer!
My 8 year old enjoyed every lesson. He independently read through and completed the course over his entire summer! He was excited to practice the fishing tips he learned at the park with his dad. After he completed the course his penmanship for the next fall school year improved so much! It also helped his confidence and endurance with writing. Now when writing letters to his friends he writes them in cursive and feels proud. Definitely recommend!
Hooked the Kids
Review by Tried it all
We've tried a couple other cursive programs and this was one my kids were actually interested in doing. The fishing theme was fun and we have kids with motor difficulties so that appreciated the extra activities that worked on strengthening hands and eyes. The amount of practice was not overwhelming.
