Chemistry is the study of the composition, structure, and properties of matter. It is through an understanding of chemistry that the products that have benefited society were discovered, and technologies to sustain the environment were put in place. Knowledge of how matter changes will give us an insight into the origin of life, so we can realize that life could only have been formed by a supernatural act of creation, not by a process of change over time.

  • High school science course with lab curriculum
  • Lab experiments are included with guidance on where to order the lab equipment and supplies needed for the course
  • Based on the principle that those who can understand and apply information do much better than those who simply memorize material

This course has been taught by Dr. Englin for several years, with students going on to medical and graduate school. He wanted to develop a series of courses that would give students the tools to help them succeed in higher education. The comprehensive material has God the Creator as its foundation.

The Chemistry course from Master Books is an outstanding choice for students seeking a high-quality chemistry education grounded in a biblical perspective. The course offers clear and thorough explanations of fundamental concepts, complemented by engaging illustrations and hands-on experiments that make learning both enjoyable and effective. The lessons are well-organized and student-friendly, ensuring that complex topics are accessible and understandable. We particularly appreciate the integration of a biblical worldview throughout the course, providing a faith-based context that aligns perfectly with our values. This course not only equips students with essential chemistry knowledge but also reinforces their faith, making it an excellent and enriching educational experience.
A challenging course with all the helps and things you need to succeed!
Review by sara
Looking at this high school level course may seem totally scary, but there’s hope! Master Books makes teaching chemistry a breeze with multiple options to help you succeed! The course book is very appealing and full of color, each chapter is well laid out, from a biblical stand point and easy to teach or give to an independent student. It also goes through lab procedures with pictures when needed, which I appreciate.
The teacher’s guide, like all Master Books courses, has everything you need: worksheets, lab reports, quizzes and exams. A supply list is included and answers in the back to use as you wish.
Now for the help! Master Books offers a supply kit purchase so you do not have to hunt everything down, as well as a Master Books academy video course! This goes over each lesson as well as labs, so you and your student will be a chemistry success in no time!
Great course!
Review by Dustie
Chemistry is one of those subjects that tends to intimidate people. This course is a pleasant surprise. I really like that this course has shorter lessons that allow this complex subject to be digested in bite-sized chunks.
The course is well-organized. Expect to spend an hour or so each day, five days per week on this course. It is definitely a high school level course, heavier than lower levels. Each week there are reading assignments, worksheets, a quiz, and a lab. Every 3 or 4 weeks there is a test to ensure the student is mastering the concepts. I like this design, since the concepts build on one another.
The teacher guide is consistent with other MasterBooks courses. It has the schedule, course objectives, worksheets, quizzes, exams, and answer key. I appreciate that there is a sample lab report for reference. A grade sheet is included, also.
I am so thankful that there is a Master Books Academy course to go along with it.
Overall, it is great to have a creation-based chemistry course that helps prepare the high school student for a college chemistry course and gives them a greater appreciation for the created world.
Fun Way to Learn Chemistry
Review by Elizabeth
This was a good book for my son. He loves chemistry. It was a challenging yet easy-to-understand text. It provided a structured yet flexible class. The clear explanations, engaging experiments, and interactive activities have made learning chemistry fun for him.
Loved it!
Review by Samantha
My kids loved this curriculum! The experiments were fun and easy enough to do at home. Still it challenged their minds and grew their love for science. I love that even in science, God is glorified as it’s author.
wonderful

I was afraid I would have trouble with helping my daughter with this course-I wasn't a science person in high school but let me tell you something...I have learned so much along with my daughter and I have been able to teach her after reading the book. Its beautifully made, clearly explained. I love the step by steps. My daughter likes chemistry but most importantly, we have made wonderful memories learning together.
Wow

Don't be scared of chemistry with this book! Easy to follow with so much information
Don't be afraid of chemistry!
Review by Kal's Mom
This books is beautifully composed with clear directions and great pics. This is a full 2 semester course and it clearly states the objectives, vocabulary, and required materials. This book is for 10th-12th grade and Algebra 1 should be completed to aid in equations and formulas. I was a bit nervous to start chemistry because of the lab experiments. This book's lab experiments are included and have a step by step image and guidance.... I am no longer nervous.
Great mid level high school course!

We have really enjoyed MB Chemistry thus far. We are about 1/2 way and heading into Christmas break. I agree with a previous review that a video would be helpful. We are using in a co op setting. This course isn't as dry as another popular Chemistry but also not to easy. It covers topics and coursework needed for high school. Glad we tried a high school masters level Master Books curriculum! We really enjoy lower elementary levels!
FULL High School Program Your High Schooler Will LOVE
Review by nicole
We're already thinking ahead, and I have looked at quite a few high school science books already (as my daughter will probably start her science classes a year early), so I was really interested to see how this new book compared. Like any traditional Chemistry textbook, it has a full 2 semester course, with the included labs, so your child CAN earn a FULL Carnegie credit from taking the course. It is a traditional level, not honors though. Your child should have completed Algebra 1 prior to attempting this course, as the basics are usefully for chemistry equations and formulas, so generally it is recommended for 10-12 graders.

The book has 28 chapters, with labs in each chapter, so your lab component is consistent all year long. The book also features a lab procedures appendix and a list of Christian Chemists.

Let me break that down a bit more. Each chapter lesson features practice what you've learned exercises and weekly quizzes (important for grading). Your child will also conduct a lab procedure that reflects the lessons learned in the reading, as well as write up a report about the experiment and their results (yeah WRITING!). As chapters progress, they build on each other and after a couple, there is a review and then a test (more grades!). This is a SOLID chemistry curriculum. the SCIENCE is the same as you would find in any chemistry text, BUT the SCIENCE is put into God's framework. For example, "God created the water molecules". We know this from the bible, so it makes sense in context of a Christian text. I was worried it would just be bible verses here and there, with talk about missions, etc. But it's not- it's SOLID science that tie's in with your child's bible and history lessons! you KNOW how much we homeschool mom love curriculum that cross over!

My daughter looked at the text as well and declared it about the same as the 'hard science' books she's been using. Both of us felt the language was aimed more at kids, at real-life situations, for better understanding. Even the labs seemed to be aimed at what you can do at home. Each lab tells you what the required materials need are, gives a teacher's note about them/why the lab is being done, the procedure to follow and then what needs to be included in your child's report. Most of the materials we either have, or they are easy to obtain, so completing the labs will not be a problem. As there is no 'workbook', your child can have the freedom to make one their way- either in a binder, notebook or artbook. Woo hoo- organization and art skills!

There is a matching Teacher's Guide for the text, that not only provides additional help for all of the laboratory exercises (great if you're NOT scientifically minded), as well as lesson schedule, quizzes, and examinations (that are provided along with the answers), as well as grading scales for labs and tests. For example: did you know that C is AVERAGE for science classes for most students? I had NO idea!

It also offers a list of items needed for the lab, that you may not have, all on one page, so you have a 'shopping list' at the BEGINNING of the school year! I also love that you can tear out the quizzes and exams (which match the ones in the text), have your child complete them, and then record grades right in the Guidebook! Using it with the text, your student will have about 5 hours of course work, per week, meeting most guidelines for High School classes, and College level prequisites. You can buy it with the text, at a special bundle rate as well.

Both the text and the teacher's guide are available as DOWNLOADABLE texts as well. This is great if you will be doing homeschool on the road, as your child can easily have their text downloaded on their tablet/laptops, and allows for easier independent use! AND no lugging around a 15 pound textbook!

Overall, I'd say this is a much more approachable (aka much less DRY and boring) chemistry text, than the one we had planned on using for my daughter. for her HS Chemistry class. BUT the same material is covered. The only difference is there is no AUDIBLE to go along with the text, so if your child uses adaptive technology, they may need it for the book. So it really depends on your child. If they need a more laid back approach (aka not an honors class), and you'd prefer a worldview one, this might be the PERFECT text for your child to use.
