Equipping Parents
Review by JoyfulMommy
To concerned Christian parents, it is easy to see that the way our culture is going is not in line with, and is actually opposed to, the Word of God. We want to equip our children to stand firmly and boldly on the Truth. But how do we practically do that? As the author states, “we must ground them in biblical truth and also teach them the world’s perspective so they can discern what is from God.”

Presenting the history, implications, and reality of various cultural movements including feminism, critical race theory, LGBTQ+, and others, the author equips us as parents with an understanding of current secular ideologies and their terms so we are prepared to engage our children in conversations about the culture they’re growing up in (not to mention interacting with people steeped in this worldview ourselves). Knowing the terms is key because a lot of the same words are used between the biblical worldview and the postmodern ideologies - including within the progressive “Christian” church - but with an entirely different meaning. Because of details regarding sensitive topics, I recommend this as a book for parents to read through themselves, and then discuss the topics at their discretion with their children. I am grateful to have read this and think it is a very helpful resource for parents.
A critical tool for parents and grandparents of the next generation of Christian warriors
Review by Karen
As an older woman who raised my children during the 70's and 80's, the challenges faced by today's parents are frankly frightening. Although I am aware of the changes in belief systems and the lead cultural worldviews have taken in society and the churches, I really had no idea how serious the issue has become. I don't have grandchildren, but I intend to buy several cases of this book and hand it out to every young family I know. Andrea's no nonsense approach to the challenges of raising Christian children in today's culture, as well as biblical methods of dealing with it were so refreshing. With the compromise of biblical values I am seeing in many of the churches today, I was thankful to see a book that addresses the challenges head on. Andrea says the hard part out loud and gives practical steps to raise strong, Christian warriors. This is an excellent resource for parents and grandparents alike to educate, encourage and equip the next generation with biblical truth and solutions to the challenges facing them. I also appreciated her evangelist approach to equipping our children to come alongside and minister to their friends who may be struggling. The fight is real. We need the right weapons. And this book should be in your arsenal.
A great next step-in researching tackling worldly issues biblically
Review by Sara
This book is a great overview to help parents begin to tackle the issues we are facing with our children today. Masterbooks offers another book, Quick Answers to Social Issues, which is a quick overview of a lot of the issues in this book- and I think Christ over Culture is a great next step to diving into these issues biblically. This book certainly goes more in depth with each chapter, connecting issues like feminism, LGBTQ+, and the world’s sexual obsession and discusses how to tackle them when speaking with our children and pointing them to Jesus. Ecclesiastes tells us that there is nothing new under the sun, and this is certainly the case in our world today, even if this seems like new territory for us as parents. The blueprint for handling all things can be found in the Bible but books like this are great ways to get us as christian parents thinking and motivated to take them on and research them through a biblical lens. This is certainly a great motivational read for parents.
Almost Perfect
Review by Yulia
Andrea Crum does a great job revealing the reality of our culture and Postmodernism worldview which now even entered the churches as well. Christ Over Culture is an eye opening, humbling, yet encouraging book. I liked how the author mentions that we can't skip relationships with God and go straight to apologetics. We have to make sure they have a relationship with God first. She gives many great ideas on how to help kids to face our culture today and how to stay strong and true to God.

Some things that were concerning to me and why I can't give this book 5 stars are:

1. When she talks about worldviews in Chapter 4, it was troubling to me that she included Islam into the Theism worldview. I've never heard of this before, and it can be confusing for some, especially new Christians that Islam is the same as Christianity.

2. Then, later in Chapter 11, when she talks about the Character of God, she skips that God is good. We can’t ignore the goodness of God since He calls Himself good many times in the Bible, and I think it is a very important attribute of God to many people. God is indeed just, but He is also good!

3. Last, in chapter 11, she talks about disciples being afraid before resurrection of Christ, but then becoming brave after resurrection, even willing to die for Christ. The author completely skips the fact that the bravery came from the power of the Holy Spirit as the Bible mentions that they were afraid and prayed to God for bravery, and He filled them with power of the Holy Spirit, and they boldly testified to others about Jesus. It’s listed in Acts 4:23-31. Acts chapter 2 also talks about the Holy Spirit initially filling the disciples, and them becoming witnesses of God. We can’t ignore this because it’s significant for our kids to know how to have boldness to preach the Gospel. Without the Holy Spirit, we truly cannot be witnesses of God.

Regardless of these points, I still enjoyed this book and felt that it was very beneficial to me and my family. It edified me to do better as a parent to teach my kids about relationships with God and demonstrate it even more in my life. I am grateful for this book.

With all the cultural changes in today’s society, it’s nice to read a book that looks at what’s going on from a Christian worldview. This dives into the major cultural issues, explains them and gives direction so we can talk to our kids about them. What should our response and Christians be, how can we be both truthful and loving to so many people who are hurting? This book covers it. It also discusses how important it is to prepare our children to live in this world, by teaching them what’s happening in our postmodern culture and how to stand firm in the faith. A great resource to understand the world we are now living in.
