  • Quotations that give insights into character, plot, and more.

The student chapters are in the first part of the volume, and the teacher’s answer keys are available in the back section. The objective test portions are found in each chapter and also offered as a free download for classroom use at nlpg.com/50classicsaids.

This guided analysis is also a helpful introduction to the discussions found in Dr. Stobaugh’s American, British, and World Literature curriculum.

I purchased this to use as a guide for my 8th grader's literature for the upcoming school year. I am so impressed with how well the book is organized and how easy it is to use. I had my daughter read the short descriptions included for each book and from those she picked out the literature she wants to read for the year. Then we'll use the discussion questions at the end of each book. This is a great resource for anyone looking to put together their own literature studies.
I think this will work...
Review by Shannon
My plan was to start incorporating classic literature studies starting in 6th grade but I was a little overwhelmed with the book options and study guides or lack thereof. I am currently working on pre-reading the recommended books for younger readers because I enjoy reading classics and had not read many of these, (a list is included in the back of the book to indicate younger or mature age groups) thus far I am pleased with the summary and questions that have accompanied the books. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because there is not a table of contents included for the teachers aids (answers to the questions) which has been frustrating for me but nothing that would prevent me from using the book. I debated on purchasing this as an ebook and did not think to look at the specification for the book size. Now that I have it I almost wish I had purchased as an ebook since it is not 8 1/2 x 11 and perforated like the other Master Books resources so ensuring the kids don’t have access to the answers will not be as easy. Other than those small complaints I think this is a hidden gem on the website.
Great resource

We are using this with the writing strands 1 this year. So many wonderful classics to choose from and I like the extra literature lessons included. A wonderful side by side companion for middle schoolers or high schoolers!
Great add on

I got this book for my middle schooler. There are book suggestions for younger readers and more mature readers. So you can determine what level your student is reading at. I might have my son read easier versions of some books for the exposure to the story and revisit the book when he gets to high school. I like that it has comprehension questions as well as plot summaries about each book. I will have him read a few of the suggested books each year and then a few more than that in high school. I'm using along with Writing Strands as a guide to help me choose literature for the reading weeks. I’m sure we won’t read all of them but its a handy resource to have.
