Overview

This is a true story. It comes from 1 Samuel Chapter 17 in your Bible.

In the Old Testament, we are reminded again and again through the stories that when God made a promise, He kept it. Even when the perfect Creation was ruined, God made a plan to save us from sin. He loved us enough to sacrifice something very special to Him.

In 1 Samuel chapter 17 of the Bible, the iconic story of David and Goliath unfolds. The Philistine army gathers to fight against the Israelites, and their champion warrior, Goliath, challenges the Israelites to send out a champion to face him in single combat. Goliath is a giant, intimidating and seemingly unbeatable.

David, a young shepherd boy, arrives at the Israelite camp to bring food for his older brothers who are serving in the army. When he hears Goliath's taunts and threats, David is filled with courage and offers to fight him. Despite the doubts and skepticism of King Saul and others, David's determination prevails.

David refuses to wear the king's armor but takes his sling and chooses five smooth stones from a nearby brook. With God's strength and guidance, David confronts Goliath. He skillfully slings a stone, striking Goliath in the forehead, causing him to fall. David then takes Goliath's own sword and kills him, solidifying the victory for Israel.

This extraordinary event showcases the power of faith, courage, and trust in God. Despite being smaller and less experienced than his adversary, David's unwavering belief in God's assistance enables him to triumph over Goliath. The story serves as an inspiration, reminding us that with God's help, we can overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges.

Cute Bible Story Book
Review by Dustie
This is a cute little book that retells the biblical account of David and Goliath. It weaves in the message of salvation through Jesus at the end, which is really wonderful. The illustrations are colorful. These little books make a fun addition to our home library, and they would make a nice gift.
Directs us to the Gospel
Review by JoyfulMommy
C.H. Spurgeon once quoted a story in which an older preacher gave this advice to a young man just beginning his ministry. “Don’t you know, young man, that from every town and every village and every hamlet in England, wherever it may be, there is a road to London? So from every text of Scripture there is a road to Christ. And my dear brother, your business is, when you get to a text, to say, now, what is the road to Christ? I have never found a text that had not got a road to Christ in it, and if ever I do find one, I will go over hedge and ditch but I would get at my Master, for the sermon cannot do any good unless there is a savor of Christ in it.”

I love how this book directs our focus to the gospel, showing how the story of David and Goliath points to how Jesus defeated death in a different way than people were looking for Him to; yet how He won the victory over death and offers life to all who repent and believe in Him. It makes the Old Testament “story” relevant to us today as it connects the historical account to the gospel and the unchangeableness of God. I think that having children’s books that do this helps to establish that pattern as we read other Old Testament Bible stories and look for how they point to Christ.

Our third grade daughter really enjoyed reading this to her younger siblings. The reading level was simple for her to read aloud smoothly and kept the younger children’s interest. All of them were very engaged looking for the hidden pictures throughout. I’m glad Master Books is offering these books and think they will be a blessing to many!
