Customer Reviews
The animals that are talked about in this book, you have the chance to read their stories and how they helped people out during that time period. I truly love this book and can't wait for another one to come out.
I love how so many new vocabulary words are introduced throughout the stories. While the meaning can often be deduced in the context of the sentence, the definition is also placed on the page to help. I love these books, my kids love them too, and we look forward to more releases like these!
My kids love animals and truly enjoyed reading about them and their extraordinary abilities to assist soldiers during wars. My 4th grader was able to read and comprehend the stories with no issues. I love that the author added vocabulary words to help kids learn new words and understand the stories better. This book is a part of beautiful series of readers, and a wonderful addition to our library.
Highly recommend!
Extraordinary Animal Heroes is an excellent book to have on your bookshelf at home and perfect for every animal lover! My kids love all things history, and I love that I can offer them a book that is age-appropriate.
This book contains stories of animal heroes during World War I, the Alaskan Black Death, World War II, and the Korean War. Each war or event has a brief overview that is then followed by stories about the extraordinary animals involved during that specific war or event. A total of 10 stories are included.
I appreciate the vocabulary words that are given throughout this book. It can be used as a stand-alone to learn about these animal heroes OR you can incorporate it into your other studies by using the amazing resource at the end of the book that lists corresponding curriculum (textbooks covering the time period that these stories take place). We are going through America’s Story right now and I love that we will be able to use this book to read about some amazing and fun stories of animal heroes that occur even in the most difficult times of our history.
This book is great for independent reading, as it is fun and has definitions for words that may be unfamiliar or difficult for younger readers to understand. It would make a great read-aloud or morning basket addition. These stories would also be really fun to include with corresponding history lessons, and there’s even a list in the back of the book that notes potential books to pair each chapter with.
Overall, I highly recommend this entire series of books for every homeschool library. They’re such a fun way to learn bits of history.
