Great for Middle and High Schoolers
Review by Lyn C
This book was such a pleasure to read. The Author did a wonderful job of summarizing each preachers/Evangelists life in each chapter. I honestly wanted to dive deeper into each one’s life after reading this book. At the end of the book there is timeline with each Pastor/Evangelists life/work outlined. This really helps to visualize where they all sat in relation to one another.
This would be great for a Middle Schooler or High Schooler to use along side their History or as supplemental reading in Language Arts. I can see my second grader enjoying this book as well as a family read along. This book clearly shows the boldness our fathers of the faith had and how God uses that for His glory.
Inspiring Faith & History for Homeschoolers
Review by Kathleen C
As a homeschooling parent passionate about teaching both history and faith, Famous Preachers and Evangelists by Marilyn Boyer was exactly what I was looking for. This book introduces children to some of the most influential gospel preachers and evangelists in history—men and women who stood firm in their faith and boldly proclaimed the truth of God’s Word. Each biography is written in a way that’s engaging and accessible for upper elementary and middle school students, making it a great read-aloud or independent reading option. What I especially appreciated was how the book doesn't just give facts, but shares the heart and spiritual legacy of each individual. It opened up meaningful discussions in our home about calling, perseverance, and what it means to live for Christ. This is an excellent addition to any Christian homeschool curriculum—perfect for character studies, church history, or devotional time.
Must-read for families
Review by SB
Famous Preachers and Evangelists by Marilyn Boyer is a must-read for families! This book introduces us to 10 famous preachers and evangelists. I appreciate the way this book is written. The stories are easy to follow and the extra pictures, maps, vocabulary words, Bible verses and timelines add so much extra information. The timeline at the back of the book includes all 10 men, which is helpful to see how they fit together, from John Wesley’s birth in 1703 to John Harper’s death in 1912. There is also a glossary, listing all of the vocabulary words highlighted throughout the book. I think it is important for us to know the stories of these men, and this book teaches us in an interesting way that is appealing for both children and adults to read.
Excellent history book!

I really love this book! The facts are well presented without feeling like a dry textbook yet it is very informative. The images truly help bring the text to life and I honestly found myself not wanting to put it down. This is the type of resource that makes history come to life for a student!
Legendary Examples of Dedication
Review by Charity
I love sharing heroes of the Faith with my children, so I was excited when I found out that Master Books was putting out a series of readers on Legends of Faith. The second book, Famous Preachers and Evangelists, is an inspiring collection of brief biographies of influential preachers and evangelists from the Americas and Europe. These men's dedication to their ministry sparked revival and reform that echoed across their continent and often across the ocean.

This book is targeted for a middle school aged reading level. I think that advanced elementary students may also be able to gain from this book as any troubling content is presented in a matter of fact and not overly graphic manner. I also appreciated that this book gives a factual account without promoting a particular denomination's agenda and is not flavored with a postmodernism bent like many of the other resources of this kind that are on the market. Thank you Master Books for this wonderful resource!
Great history read!
Review by Barbara D
This is the second book of the series, and much like the first book my kids and I loved it. My son (who is almost 12) keeps it in the car so he can read it when we are on our way somewhere, waiting for a pickup order, or mom talks too much and he's sitting in the car. This book is his current favorite.
I love all of the history about the different preachers through the years. Many I have heard the names of, but it is great to read about the early beginnings that shaped who they became and how they followed God when they got older.
The pictures included are in vivid color which is great for a visual learner to get more out of the text.
I personally think it is best for grades 5-9, but any one can benefit from reading about these men.
Impactful biographies
Review by BuildingontheRock
Marilyn Boyer introduces us to 10 preachers and evangelists that impacted the world they lived in for Christ. Each chapter presents a brief but engaging overview of their lives. The illustrations are colorful and sharp. The reader gets a taste of who each man was and what he did which hopefully whets the appetite to dive deeper into the lives of any individuals they are curious to learn more about or to read any of their original works. Men like Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Jonathan Edwards, and George Mueller are covered as well as perhaps less well known but very fascinating individuals who were circuit riders - Francis Asbury and Peter Cartwright - along with five others. How the Lord used these different men will hopefully challenge readers to examine their own walks with the Lord and how they can impact those around them for Christ. I highly recommend this book as a read aloud for younger students and excellent reading material for middle schoolers and beyond.
Nice!
