Uplifting resource that brings history to life
Review by Kathleen C
As a homeschool mom, I love finding audiobooks that bring history and faith to life for my kids, and Famous Preachers and Evangelists has been a wonderful addition to our listening rotation. Marilyn Boyer shares the stories of these men and women in a way that is simple enough for children to follow, but still rich with spiritual depth and historical detail. The narration is engaging, making it easy to listen to during car rides or while we’re doing chores or crafts.

What I appreciate most is how each biography highlights God’s faithfulness and the power of ordinary people devoted to His work. My kids asked great questions afterward, which told me the stories truly connected with them. This audiobook is an inspiring, uplifting resource for Christian families, and I highly recommend it for homeschool mornings, road trips, or anytime you want to weave meaningful faith lessons into your day.
Convenient and Inspiring
Review by SB
This audiobook introduces us to 10 famous preachers and evangelists. I think it is important for us to know the stories of these men, and this audiobook teaches us in an interesting way that is appealing for both children and adults to listen to and learn from.
I really like all the additional features found in the book version (pictures, maps, timeline, etc.), but the audiobook version is convenient. Children may enjoy listening to the audio while paging through the book. Most of the stories are 15-17 minutes long.
What is done for Christ WILL last!
Review by JoyfulMommy
I love supplementing our history studies with biographies as it more personally acquaints us with the people, lifestyles, challenges, etc. of the time. And I especially like to learn from and about godly men and women who show us the power of the Holy Spirit at work in ordinary people who are surrendered to Him and invest their lives in what truly counts for eternity! This book covers a range of men who differed on some matters of doctrine and represent various denominations, but all agreed on the fundamental principles of the gospel. What a joy and inspiration it is to be reminded of the power of the gospel as Jesus “brings many sons to glory” through the proclamation of His Truth!
Encouraging and Inspiring
Review by Michelle C.
Famous Preachers and Evangelists is an encouraging and informative audiobook about the lives of 10 famous preachers throughout church history. I enjoyed listening to the stories of beloved favorites in addition to getting to know men I was not familiar with.

I would have preferred the author to be the narrator versus the narrator chosen, but this does not prevent me from listening to the book. Maps, timelines, and vocabulary words are all included within the physical book but can't be enjoyed in the audiobook. Additionally, the first page of each chapter in the physical book has a quote, and some locations and dates mentioned but these sound very random and choppy within the audiobook. For these reasons, I would recommend the audiobook alongside the physical book and not necessarily as a standalone audiobook.

As an adult, I was encouraged and inspired by the lives of these men, and I would recommend this book to middle schoolers or even older elementary students. I highly recommend the physical or ebook edition as well!

Positive Inspiring Audio content
Review by Michele
We enjoy having these as supplemental listening to enhance America's Story curriculum or as extensions when these notable figures come up naturally in life. I find them to be inspiring for my students and appreciate the uplifting content in my home. I will do things like let them build with bricks or draw while listening for a peaceful yet busy hands atmosphere.
Inspiring stories
Review by Dustie
This is a fantastic compilation of inspiring stories of impactful preachers and evangelists. It’s just right for middle school and junior high students, but it is also in-depth enough to keep parents engaged. This is a great book for independent reading (or listening). Personally, I am enjoying the audiobook. Audiobooks are a convenient way for me to get more books in while I’m doing housework or taking a walk. My junior high student likes to craft, and it’s nice to have books like this for her to listen to while she crafts. The chapters are about 15 minutes each on the audiobook, so they’re not overwhelming in length. I’m enjoying listening to the same book as my daughter then discussing them later.
These stories are inspiring and show how one person devoted to the LORD can make such a big impact on others for eternity and how God can do extraordinary things using imperfect and ordinary people who love Him. I do appreciate that the author addresses that some of the preachers held differences in belief (I.e. sprinkling versus immersion or Calvinism versus Arminianism), but they all held the foundational belief of faith Jesus as our Savior.
I’m excited to get the whole set now.
Convenient for listening to together whileon the go
Review by Charity
Famous Preachers and Evangelists is an inspiring collection of brief biographies of influential preachers and evangelists from the Americas and Europe. These men's dedication to their ministry sparked revival and reform that echoed across their continent and often across the ocean.

We enjoy having the audiobook to listen to on the go and to increase comprehension by following along with a text copy. The author speaks very clearly but his intonation and expression can be a bit lulling at times. Overall though it is a helpful resource to have on hand!

This book is targeted for a middle school aged reading level. I think that advanced elementary students may also be able to gain from this book as any troubling content is presented in a matter of fact and not overly graphic manner. I also appreciated that this book gives a factual account without promoting a particular denomination's agenda and is not flavored with a postmodernism bent like many of the other resources of this kind that are on the market. Thank you Master Books for this wonderful resource!
My son's new favorite audio book
Review by Barbara D.
My son and I love the history of all these stories. We enjoyed the physical book and are now enjoying the audio book. My son loves studying the Titanic, so I was glad to see John Harper as part of this and that is one of my son's favorite stories.
The reader does read clearly and is easily understood. The pronunciation of some words is not correct, but doesn't take away from the content or flow of the chapters.
I will note that at the beginning of every chapter where the author describes the times and locations of the chapter, it is not read that way in the audio book. It sounds like a bunch of random dates and locations instead of an overview of the chapter.
I highly recommend it to go along with the physical book but not as a stand alone audio book.
Inspiring Biographies for Listeners of All Ages
Review by BuildingontheRock
Marilyn Boyer introduces us to 10 preachers and evangelists that impacted the world they lived in for Christ. Each chapter presents a brief but engaging overview of their lives. The listener gets a taste of who each man was and what he did which hopefully whets the appetite to dive deeper into the lives of any individuals they are curious to learn more about or to read any of their original works. Men like Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Jonathan Edwards, and George Mueller are covered as well as perhaps less well known but very fascinating individuals who were circuit riders - Francis Asbury and Peter Cartwright - along with five others. How the Lord used these different men will hopefully challenge listeners to examine their own walks with the Lord and how they can impact those around them for Christ. The narrator is not the author but does a nice job. I highly recommend this audiobook for listeners of all ages and as a wonderful accompaniment to the written copy.
Treasure trove
Review by Samantha
A treasure trove of stories about bold preachers and evangelists who changed the world for Christ. Each chapter brings history to life with excitement and purpose, showing kids (and adults!) how God uses ordinary people in extraordinary ways. It’s faith-building, character-shaping, and hard to push pause!
