Customer Reviews
What I appreciate most is how each biography highlights God’s faithfulness and the power of ordinary people devoted to His work. My kids asked great questions afterward, which told me the stories truly connected with them. This audiobook is an inspiring, uplifting resource for Christian families, and I highly recommend it for homeschool mornings, road trips, or anytime you want to weave meaningful faith lessons into your day.
I really like all the additional features found in the book version (pictures, maps, timeline, etc.), but the audiobook version is convenient. Children may enjoy listening to the audio while paging through the book. Most of the stories are 15-17 minutes long.
I would have preferred the author to be the narrator versus the narrator chosen, but this does not prevent me from listening to the book. Maps, timelines, and vocabulary words are all included within the physical book but can't be enjoyed in the audiobook. Additionally, the first page of each chapter in the physical book has a quote, and some locations and dates mentioned but these sound very random and choppy within the audiobook. For these reasons, I would recommend the audiobook alongside the physical book and not necessarily as a standalone audiobook.
As an adult, I was encouraged and inspired by the lives of these men, and I would recommend this book to middle schoolers or even older elementary students. I highly recommend the physical or ebook edition as well!
These stories are inspiring and show how one person devoted to the LORD can make such a big impact on others for eternity and how God can do extraordinary things using imperfect and ordinary people who love Him. I do appreciate that the author addresses that some of the preachers held differences in belief (I.e. sprinkling versus immersion or Calvinism versus Arminianism), but they all held the foundational belief of faith Jesus as our Savior.
I’m excited to get the whole set now.
We enjoy having the audiobook to listen to on the go and to increase comprehension by following along with a text copy. The author speaks very clearly but his intonation and expression can be a bit lulling at times. Overall though it is a helpful resource to have on hand!
This book is targeted for a middle school aged reading level. I think that advanced elementary students may also be able to gain from this book as any troubling content is presented in a matter of fact and not overly graphic manner. I also appreciated that this book gives a factual account without promoting a particular denomination's agenda and is not flavored with a postmodernism bent like many of the other resources of this kind that are on the market. Thank you Master Books for this wonderful resource!
The reader does read clearly and is easily understood. The pronunciation of some words is not correct, but doesn't take away from the content or flow of the chapters.
I will note that at the beginning of every chapter where the author describes the times and locations of the chapter, it is not read that way in the audio book. It sounds like a bunch of random dates and locations instead of an overview of the chapter.
I highly recommend it to go along with the physical book but not as a stand alone audio book.
