Earth's past is littered with the mysterious and unexplained: the pyramids, Easter Island, Stonehenge, dinosaurs, and the list goes on and on as science looks for clues to decipher these puzzles.

One such mystery surrounds the now-extinct creature called the woolly mammoth. Author and meteorologist Michael Oard has studied the mammoth and its equally mysterious time period, the Ice Age, for many years and has come to some fascinating conclusions to help lift the fog engulfing the facts. Some of the questions he addresses include:

  • What would cause the summer temperatures of the northern United States and European to plummet more than 50 degrees Fahrenheit?
  • Why did mammoths become extinct across the entire earth at the same time as many other large mammals?
  • Why are the mammoth carcasses found generally in standing positions?
  • How could large lakes exist in what are today very dry, desert-like places?
  • What was the source of the abnormal of moisture necessary for heavy snow?
  • What caused the cold summer temperatures and heavy snowfall to persist for hundreds of years?

In logical progression many other Ice Age topics are explained including super Ice Age floods, ice cores, man in the Ice Age, and the number of ice ages. This is one of the most difficult eras in geological history for a uniformitarian scientist (one who believes the earth evolved by slow processes over millions of years) to explain, simply because long ages of evolution cannot explain it. Provided here are plausible explanations of the seemingly unsolvable mysterious about the Ice Age and the woolly mammoths - Frozen in Time.

Awesome

We loved this book especially as I have older kids who are still obsessed with dinosaurs and this brings out other questions that this book helped to answer for them!!!
Interesting!

I purchased this for my upcoming 5th grader and it's a bit beyond him at this point but I appreciate MB so much. Their commitment to offer books with a genuine biblical worldview as well as providing solid answers to real questions is so appreciated.
Lots of info

Great Book

After reading Life in the Great Ice Age, my son wanted to read every book about mammoths. I purchased this book for him at his request, and he is reading it in his spare time, just for fun. He is enjoying it a lot. I specially like that it’s from a biblical perspective!
Great Resource

My kids always have questions about the Ice Age & extinction of certain animals, then after visiting a natural history museum my daughter became obsessed with the Woolly Mammoth. I got this during a flash sale figuring it would answer some questions from a truly biblical standpoint. The book did not disappoint.
Good read for older children who are interested
Review by Dana
I got this for my child who is very interested in wooly mammoths, but she didn't enjoy the book very much (5th grade). I think she was expecting more pictures and for it to be on her reading level. However, my 6 grade history buff and voracious reader absolutely loved it. I couldn't get him to put it down. So I would recommend it for kids who really enjoy reading, not just those who are interested in that time period.
Interesting

This was a good book packed with info about the ice age. My 6th grader did not enjoy it as much as I did! But it had a lot of good info!
Interesting

I bought this book as an additional resource for our history lessons. I ended up using it as a short read aloud during Morning Time because it did not seem to be as user-friendly for my 9 year olds. They still enjoy the content, as do I, it was just a bit too advanced for them to enjoy reading it. Great book with interesting and educational facts about this particular time period.
Interesting!
