Overview

Complete chemistry and ecology curriculum for 3rd-8th graders, which presents God’s amazing world through the study of atoms, molecules, matter, and ecosystems!

Properties of Matter: Learn all about matter—the stuff that makes up the universe God created. Learn how to measure the properties of solids, liquids, and gases and the process of classification. Have fun using the scientific method!

Properties of Ecosystems: Learn about the amazing world that God created as you study 16 different ecosystems and the plants and animals that live and interact in them. You will also learn how God originally created our world good, and why things changed.

Properties of Atoms & Molecules: Explore the tiniest part of God’s creation — atoms and molecules — and learn about their structures and the different ways that atoms bond. Learn about the basics of the periodic table, chemical reactions, and biochemistry.

The God’s Design Science series is based on a biblical worldview and reveals how science supports the biblical account of creation. Richard and Debbie Lawrence, authors of the series, have a long history of enjoying science. They have both worked as electrical engineers and now Debbie teaches Chemistry and Physics at a homeschool co-op. While homeschooling their children for 16 years, there was almost always a science experiment going on in the kitchen. Today that tradition is being continued with the next generation as the grandkids enjoy Grandma Science Day once a week. The Lawrences also enjoy playing street hockey, hiking in the Rocky Mountains, and visiting historical sites around the world.

We like it
Review by Michelle
Overall it's a great book, I wish there were fewer experiments or that there was a kit that could be purchased that had the supplies for the experiments.
Good course
Review by Lisa
My 7th grader struggles in school, so I thought this would be more doable for her. Its short lessons are perfect and without too many questions. I enjoy the fun little extras in throws in, especially the biographies of amazing scientists. I do feel in moves a bit fast, I wish it spent more time going over a subject. Each day it's something new. It does have some sort of a hands on activity almost every day, which gets very overwhelming. We limit it to just choosing one per week. Overall it's a beautiful curriculum and I would buy it again.
Enjoyed the course
Review by Amber
I was a little worried my fifth grade daughter might not be able hang in there, but knew my seventh grader son could, so we went for it. So glad we did! The older child was required to do the additional activities. They both learned so much. Let’s face it, chemistry can be intimidating so I braced for a hard year. But, they both enjoyed the course and learned so much! My 5th grade daughter struggled on a couple of tests but we found ways to accommodate and encourage her along. Even with a few struggles, they have both retained more than I would have expected. I took chemistry class in college and was amazed how much they were learning that I didn’t know until college. Ecology in the middle was awesome! Great course! Will be moving on to Physical World Science next year.
Not bad for chemistry!
Review by LC
Chemistry was my least favorite subject in school, ever! I was so nervous to have to teach this to my kids. However, this course is so well done and not overwhelming at all. I still don’t like chemistry and neither does my daughter, but we have understood this course and have had fun along the way. Definitely better with the Academy course added to it! I couldn’t have done it without that!
God is glory constantly on display.
Review by Chelsie
My daughter and I are both learning a ton from this curriculum. I love that the creation worldview comes through constantly. I love that lessons continually point back to the intelligent design. We both look forward to science each week.
Love the experiments!
Review by Monica
My son was wanting more experiments, so we bought this. I do find for a 4th grader; it seems a little more advanced. I have added 4th grade videos to help him to understand the chapter. He loves the experiments that we do.
To the Point
Review by Alyssa
Chemistry and Ecology has excellent illustrations and pertinent information and is easy to understand.
Difficult, but thorough
Review by Courtney
My 4th grader was so excited to begin this particular book and he has enjoyed it...it is a bit more challenging than I initially thought. We have taken a bit of a slower pace through it, and I think that was helpful. He has enjoyed the experiments, and as the parent it was easy to have the items on hand for him to complete them.
more advanced curriculum
Review by Rachel
This was a harder advanced curriculum than I thought. my son still enjoyed it, learning about the periodic table and why things do what they do because God created them and what they're made of. He was amazed at matter and atoms even though we cant see them, they're all around us following the laws of science how God Designed them. I am grateful for a biblical curriculum to teach science and would do this one a bit older with my daughter. (my son was 10)
Good, but too challenging
Review by Rebecca
This is a challenging science course. My daughter completed in 5th grade. It was a struggle because some of the vocabulary and concepts were too hard for her. we learned a lot but couldnt complete all the work. I recommend it for the older ranges of ages. will give a strong base.
