Overview

Complete chemistry and ecology curriculum for 3rd-8th graders (best for grades 7-8), which presents God’s amazing world through the study of atoms, molecules, matter, and ecosystems!

Properties of Matter: Learn all about matter—the stuff that makes up the universe God created. Learn how to measure the properties of solids, liquids, and gases and the process of classification. Have fun using the scientific method!

Properties of Ecosystems: Learn about the amazing world that God created as you study 16 different ecosystems and the plants and animals that live and interact in them. You will also learn how God originally created our world good, and why things changed.

Properties of Atoms & Molecules: Explore the tiniest part of God’s creation — atoms and molecules — and learn about their structures and the different ways that atoms bond. Learn about the basics of the periodic table, chemical reactions, and biochemistry.

The God’s Design Science series is based on a biblical worldview and reveals how science supports the biblical account of creation. Richard and Debbie Lawrence, authors of the series, have a long history of enjoying science. They have both worked as electrical engineers and now Debbie teaches Chemistry and Physics at a homeschool co-op. While homeschooling their children for 16 years, there was almost always a science experiment going on in the kitchen. Today that tradition is being continued with the next generation as the grandkids enjoy Grandma Science Day once a week. The Lawrences also enjoy playing street hockey, hiking in the Rocky Mountains, and visiting historical sites around the world.

We have enjoyed this book.
Great

The material in the book is easily read and flows well. It gives detailed information that is easily learned. Each lesson directly points back to biblical foundation.
Excellent Elementary Science
Review by Sarah
I am so happy that Master Books has partnered with Answers in Genesis to sell this curriculum. It is truly the best elementary science curriculum that I have used (and I have tried MANY). These books might seem small and simple, but they are brilliantly done. Your student will learn so much about chemistry and ecology that will stick with them. I especially loved how the activities really cemented concepts in their minds and then they would notice what they learned in the real world. The activities were all done in a fun, but not overwhelming way. The projects are fun and doable, not burdensome. The erosion project helped them to SEE the effects of erosion on our hikes and road trips. Also, the sediment settling project really stuck in their brain in a way that every time they see the evolution-based geological columns, they INSTANTLY have a mental imagine of how QUICKLY sediment settles into distinct layers. If you want a science curriculum that points your children's heart to their Creator, shows them that their faith is not disconnected from academics, gives them a solid foundation for future learning, is fun and doesn't overwhelm Mom, this is the curriculum for you! Don't be temped by more expensive bells and whistles that will leave your kids overwhelmed and without enough time to go OUT and DISCOVER life science through outdoor play.
My son loved the science experiments
Review by Hess Family
This curriculum is very informative and enjoyable to learn. My son especially enjoyed the science experiments. I recommend this science course.
Good introduction to Chemistry and Ecology
Review by Ana
This is a good introduction for younger students to Chemistry and Ecology. Our family likes to learn all to books from God's Design Series as a read aloud. It's worked for us.
We like it
Review by Michelle
Overall it's a great book, I wish there were fewer experiments or that there was a kit that could be purchased that had the supplies for the experiments.
Good course
Review by Lisa
My 7th grader struggles in school, so I thought this would be more doable for her. Its short lessons are perfect and without too many questions. I enjoy the fun little extras in throws in, especially the biographies of amazing scientists. I do feel in moves a bit fast, I wish it spent more time going over a subject. Each day it's something new. It does have some sort of a hands on activity almost every day, which gets very overwhelming. We limit it to just choosing one per week. Overall it's a beautiful curriculum and I would buy it again.
Enjoyed the course
Review by Amber
I was a little worried my fifth grade daughter might not be able hang in there, but knew my seventh grader son could, so we went for it. So glad we did! The older child was required to do the additional activities. They both learned so much. Let’s face it, chemistry can be intimidating so I braced for a hard year. But, they both enjoyed the course and learned so much! My 5th grade daughter struggled on a couple of tests but we found ways to accommodate and encourage her along. Even with a few struggles, they have both retained more than I would have expected. I took chemistry class in college and was amazed how much they were learning that I didn’t know until college. Ecology in the middle was awesome! Great course! Will be moving on to Physical World Science next year.
Not bad for chemistry!
Review by LC
Chemistry was my least favorite subject in school, ever! I was so nervous to have to teach this to my kids. However, this course is so well done and not overwhelming at all. I still don’t like chemistry and neither does my daughter, but we have understood this course and have had fun along the way. Definitely better with the Academy course added to it! I couldn’t have done it without that!
God is glory constantly on display.
Review by Chelsie
My daughter and I are both learning a ton from this curriculum. I love that the creation worldview comes through constantly. I love that lessons continually point back to the intelligent design. We both look forward to science each week.
