Fun and Inspiring
Review by Dawn P
This audio book has sections on 10 different heroes from early America. Each section is about 10 to fifteen minutes long. My boys would happily listen to the whole book, but it could also be broken up and listened to as a part of your morning time or history studies, one hero at a time. It includes some well-known names such as Squanto and William Bradford. However, it also had some names that were new to us such as David Brainerd and Peter Francisco. It is fun and engaging but has lots of great historical information.
Inspiring collection of stories to listen to

The short, stand-alone chapters in What a Character: Heroes of Early America make it perfect for family read-alouds or homeschool history lessons. This audio book serves as both an educational resource and a character-building tool, offering stories that are rich with historical context and valuable life lessons.
Boyer emphasizes the moral virtues and steadfast principles of her subjects, encouraging readers to emulate their courage, perseverance, and reliance on God. She carefully selects figures whose lives exemplify faith, hard work, and patriotism, making them relatable and inspiring role models for young readers.
Marilyn Boyer’s engaging storytelling and focus on faith make this book a wonderful addition to any family or homeschool library. It’s both a captivating and meaningful way to learn about the heroes who shaped early America.
Engaging and Enriching Audiobook!
Review by Michelle C.
I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to the biographies in this book. The stories are engaging and enriching and are only about 15 minutes each. The narrator is easy to understand and pleasant to listen to. My son already enjoys reading the physical book. Now that I have listened to and enjoyed the audiobook, I look forward to having him listen as well.
I highly recommend this book to upper elementary students and parents as well!
An Excellent tool while traveling!

Heroes of Early America" by Marilyn Boyer is a wonderful resource for elementary and middle school students. It’s an excellent tool for learning, especially during travel.
Amazing audiobook!
Review by Michelle
My kids looove audiobook time in our house. We typically put on an audiobook or podcast when we have quiet time so the baby can nap. During this time they colour or sketch or work on little projects that keep their hands busy. This audio was an amazing one to listen to! My daughter loves history and was immediately thrilled to have this on the "listening menu". Will definitely get the other titles too! We have been searching for a worthy listen that shares our worldview. This is definitely it. It captures their interest while delivering solid educational content.
Great American History Resource
Review by SB
My kids have enjoyed the books in the What a Character! Notable Lives from History Series. We recently listened to the audiobook version of Heroes of Early America, written by Marilyn Boyer. While we missed out on the colorful illustrations found in the book version, we enjoyed the audiobook. The ten chapters covered ten important people of Early America and were each about 15 minutes long to listen to. It was the perfect amount to listen to while in the car. This is a great supplement when studying American History. Some of the stories were familiar yet others were new to us. I appreciate having these great resources to introduce my children to these inspirational people.
Enriching Biographies
Review by Michele
This collection of biographies includes depth and relevance to any study of early American history. Not only did my elementary students learn things, but my husband and I did as well! Seeing God’s providence and orchestration through the lives of these persons and their role in the founding of America was really enjoyable for me. I think our favorite was Noah Webster. Wow! It gives you an entirely new level of respect for him and the American English language.

I would use this for family read-aloud, extra project enrichment for an upper elementary or middle grade (even high school could glean from this book), background for a teacher or adult to add depth to the study and knowledge of early America. We also utilized the audiobook version in the car or while doing chores.
Great Resource!
Review by Jen
This book has been an excellent resource and a fun and informative read aloud for my son. The stories of the people in this book have really made an impact on how we are learning about history and the people who helped along the way. My son stays engaged as we are reading and he is even asking questions. We are thoroughly enjoy it!
History is fun to learn
Review by Barbara D
My kids and I enjoyed going through this book. My kids each have different favorites, and I even have a favorite too. (One kid liked Pocohontas and John Smith and the other liked Squanto and Myles Standish. I liked Noah Webster and David Brainerd.) Some of these people I had only heard the names of but never knew the history of.
I like how these readers were factual and not opinionated. It is from a Biblical worldview without trying to turn bad into good (as I have seen some history readers do). I have seen many history readers try to rewrite history to take God out of it and these don't they tell the facts as they are, but age appropriate for the ages they are geared for.
We enjoy the audio book so we can listen along, especially in the car instead of watching a movie. The audio book was clear and understandable. You can tell when the reader turns the page as there is an un-natural pause, but the book is otherwise well read.
I recommend this series, as well as this book, for enjoyment as well as education.
Great Idea!
Review by Rachel
I love that these fabulous books have been made available as audio books. I have a struggling reader who LOVES history. This (and other audiobook options) are an answered prayer for our school days and for just fun days! My kids love to read, they love to be read to and the love to listen to stories on audiobook. It's an amazing resource to have books you can trust in an audiobook option! This book specifically goes along so well with an Early American History study for school, to dive deeper into the lives of the people of that time, or to just enjoy learning about these great people who went before us! It could even be used on its own as a unit study or just for fun! We love listening to these audiobooks during drive time in the car or rest time at home! Such a GREAT resource!!
