Writing Works
Review by Tabitha
I like to expose my children to more than one writing course. This course varied in approach from the other curriculas we have tried. I feel overall that this is a solid course.
Great book!
Review by Angela
I love how this curriculum has both reading and writing. Great way to add another literature credit to a transcript. It's simple, easy to follow and has helped both my teenagers really learn how to effectively write. They were in public school up until 10th grade and have never really learned how to write papers or correct paragraph formatting. This has been really good for them and they enjoy it!
Very Good

My daughter really feels like she is enhancing her writing and learning so much about various writing formats. She loves writing and she feels like she will be better prepared for college after using this course.
Great follow up
Review by Shell
I am using this course as a final prep for college with my high school students. It is great and challenging for fine tuning their writing skills.
Just what we needed!
Review by Nicole
After coming off of a bad language arts curriculum last year, my daughter had started to detest writing. Halfway through this program and she is starting to gain her love of writing back. It is thorough without being overwhelming. I do feel that the skills she is learning, will help her in the future.
Easy to follow for my reluctant high schooler
Review by Tami
My 11th grader is enjoying this book. Simple to follow with not a ton of book work. Exactly what he needed.
Too dry
Review by Kylee
My 10th grade daughter, who doesn't mind writing, hated this book. She felt it was too restrictive and used formatting that didn't make sense to her. More examples would have been helpful. She writes well so this method of teaching didn't help her. I felt it was a good program, but not great. We switched to something else.
Great book

My 9th grader is using this book in her writing class. We both love it and we love all the Jensen books.
Encourages organization in writing, not lots of extra fluff - perfect for teenage guys!
Review by Beth
My son (15 yo - 9th grade) used just over half of this book as part of his English 9 credit for our 2018-19 school year. He does not enjoy writing and he had used another popular (but expensive) writing program previously but felt forced to add things awkwardly to his writing. We read a lot of books together and he reads a lot on his own, so I don’t feel the need to force extras into his writing. He communicates well, just needed guidance for organizing the writing.

After just a few weeks of using Jensen’s this past fall, he told me he liked that this book gave him a "format" to use when writing. He enjoyed the formula that was given to brainstorm and then compose his writing each week. We didn’t follow the schedule in the front of the book - it’s great, I just wanted to make it fit us so beginning at Lesson 2 he did the following each week:

Monday: He would read the lesson (it describes a specific type of paragraph or essay) and then he would choose a topic for the week’s writing assignment.

Tuesday: He would brainstorm his ideas about his chosen topic on a piece of paper following the format given from the reading he had done on Monday.

Wednesday: He would write (type) his rough draft using the brainstorm organization from Tuesday.

Thursday: He would "share" his rough draft with me through his Google Docs account. I would then "edit" or make "suggestions" for him within the document.

Friday: He would fix any problems from Thursday’s suggestions and then print a copy for his writing binder.

It worked so well for him and I saw a lot of growth in his writing this past year. He wrote each type of paragraph and essay twice before moving on to the next one.

We chose not to purchase the DVD to use, so I cannot review it. The book alone has worked well so we will continue using only it this coming year for part of his English 10 credit.
