Homeschool families love that Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 2 continues the fun and engaging story of Claire and Micah. Using the Master Books method of education, author Kristen Pratt incorporates poems and picture studies, as well as faith-growing verses to reinforce what students are learning. Educational activities and assignments also include memorization, grammar, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, observation, psalms, and letters. Students learn to apply their new skills by creating their own stories from pictures and sentences.

Level 2 focuses on developing early reading and narration skills. Your student will start forming basic sentences utilizing phonics, observation, and reading comprehension. By the end of the course, students should be able to comfortably write up to three sentences at a time.

A helpful and detailed daily schedule:

  • DAY 1 - A special feature or a short story; weeks in between alternate between picture studies and reading poetry or a psalm.
  • DAY 2 & 3 - Learn about writing topics such as grammar and punctuation
  • DAY 4 - Create a story, poem, or psalm
  • DAY 5 - Focus on spelling and vocabulary

Each quarter has five stories, two picture studies (one of which is Bible-based) and two poems (one of which is a Psalm.) Using the spelling words and the dictionary worksheets, students will create their own dictionary as they move week by week through the material.

Scope and sequence, a daily course calendar, and additional learning resources including independent reading lists, spelling words, practice sheets and more are included to help your student master basic concepts. Reviews are also incorporated throughout the course to help them understand and apply what they learn.

NOTE: Additional readers are not required for this course. Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 2 is included in the 2nd grade homeschool curriculum package.

Language Lessons Level 2
Review by MC
We have been pleased with both Language Lessons 1 and 2! We love the spelling! My daughter gets so excited to see her new spelling lists! There are lots of ways to utilize the spelling, so be sure to read all the wonderful additional information in the back of the book. I truly believe that if this curriculum isn't working for a family, they probably didn't read all the extras in the back of the book. So many wonderful teaching aids to help a parent customize this curriculum to fit any learning style or student's needs. The lessons are short, but build on each other. We enjoy them & I have seen a lot of progress in my student between levels 1 and 2.
ADHD win
Review by Kayla L
I was worried about this being too gentle and “not enough”. We used it and I set it to the side to try a more rigorous program and it killed my son’s willingness to even do language arts. Daily tears.
And honestly the “rigorous” program covered the same topics but just drilled and killed him. My son is ADHD but he’s a sponge for information. He doesn’t need drill and kill. He understands concepts the first couple times it’s introduced and wants to move on so this book works great for him. The lessons are short and hold his attention, he’s able to complete it quickly but he learns what he needs to know and is able to move on.
It’s a winner for us and sadly I didn’t realize that when we first used it.
We love it!

This was a great next step in laying the foundation in reading/writing. She loved writing short sentences and I loved all the extra practice that she got learning to write neatly.
Love this curriculum!

Masterbooks makes teaching math to my twins so easy and fun. We’re currently on level 2 and I really appreciate how they are teaching skip counting by 5s and 10s while introducing money basics with nickels and dimes and furthering clock knowledge with the numbers representing 5 minutes. It all ties together in such a natural way and helps them really learn the skill in a variety of ways.
Love it!
Review by Super Amazing
The skills that we are seeing grow by leaps and bounds over the last 3 years is incredible! We started educating our son with Masterbooks and do not see any reason until graduation to change any of it! I love that I know he is learning concepts piece by piece building a foundation of faith as well as knowledge. He loves growing up with Micah and Claire from the story that starts each lesson. The picture studies are just enough for him to keep his interest and building a love for art.
Good

My child needed a little more repetition than this gave, other than that, I liked it.
Love this way of learning!
Review by Elyse
My favorite part about Masterbooks Language Arts that most definitely sets them above the rest of the curriculums I've looked at is the fact that they include Bible in most lessons. I also appreciate that they don't overwhelm my child with page after page of grammar rules (this also sets them apart!) Masterbooks gives just enough information, challenges the student, yet doesn't overwhelm. That's a hard thing to find in most curriculum. So grateful we found Masterbooks.
