Series Language Lessons for a Living Education
Contributors Kristen Pratt
Publisher New Leaf Publishing Group, LLC

Homeschool families love that Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 2 continues the fun and engaging story of Claire and Micah. Using the Master Books method of education, author Kristen Pratt incorporates poems and picture studies, as well as faith-growing verses to reinforce what students are learning. Educational activities and assignments also include memorization, grammar, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, observation, psalms, and letters. Students learn to apply their new skills by creating their own stories from pictures and sentences.

Level 2 focuses on developing early reading and narration skills. Your student will start forming basic sentences utilizing phonics, observation, and reading comprehension. By the end of the course, students should be able to comfortably write up to three sentences at a time.

A helpful and detailed daily schedule:

  • DAY 1 - A special feature or a short story; weeks in between alternate between picture studies and reading poetry or a psalm.
  • DAY 2 & 3 - Learn about writing topics such as grammar and punctuation
  • DAY 4 - Create a story, poem, or psalm
  • DAY 5 - Focus on spelling and vocabulary

Each quarter has five stories, two picture studies (one of which is Bible-based) and two poems (one of which is a Psalm.) Using the spelling words and the dictionary worksheets, students will create their own dictionary as they move week by week through the material.

Scope and sequence, a daily course calendar, and additional learning resources including independent reading lists, spelling words, practice sheets and more are included to help your student master basic concepts. Reviews are also incorporated throughout the course to help them understand and apply what they learn.

NOTE: Additional readers are not required for this course.

Simple
Review by Tabitha
I love the simplicity of the curriculum. How everything is in one place. Currently working through this very slowly with my son and tailoring it to his needs.
Fun and Engaging Language Arts Lessons with a Biblical Worldview
Review by Kelly Ann
One of the many things that I really enjoy about Language Lessons for a Living Education is that everything is all laid out and ready to go. There is minimal planning needed on my part in order to carry out the lessons. As a busy homeschooling parent, that is a huge bonus for me! There is a suggested daily schedule with all the lesson topics listed, along with answer keys in the back of the book, and even a recommended reading list by grade level. Of course the best part, the program is taught with a Biblical worldview, so not only is my son getting a solid foundation in language arts (phonics, spelling, reading, and handwriting), but the program also aligns with our core beliefs and values.

The full color illustrations are bright and fun, which is especially nice for teaching my younger child, because it keeps him even more intrigued. Another neat addition for the kids is the option for them to create their own dictionary, complete with extra space for them to draw a picture/description of their spelling words. We really liked this feature!

Language Lessons for a Living Education offers a more gentle approach that doesn't just inundate my child with a ton of busywork and drills, which can be daunting for younger children. The lessons in this program are not only fun and engaging, but short and sweet, which is perfect for younger grade levels. We just finished Level 2 and I have already made my next purchase for Level 3 and plan on grabbing Level 4 in a few weeks.

I really love this curriculum, doesn't take alot of time per lesson, and the repetiveness really helps the student remember what they are learning. I got the downloadable book so i can print everything out so you don't have to buy multiple books and I find that great!

I love the pace this book moves! My kids are having fun with this program.
Educational and engaging
Review by Amy
I bought the downloadable version of this book so I can use it with both of my boys. We read the stories off my computer together, and I print off the work pages. All of the activity pages are put into a folder after they are completed. Every so often (though not as often as I would like), we go through the pages and save the best ones.
loved it, and will keep with MB

We used this last year and were so pleased, we are continuing with LLFL 4 this year. I like the pace that it moves (challenging but not overwhelming)
