We have been using this curriculum for several years and my son went to school last year. When they did testing at the beginning of the year he scored above 98% of kids his age. We can't say enough good about language lessons for a living education.
Started as a struggle
Review by Lindsay
I say that this started as a struggle because my oldest son is like his mom in the fact that we don't always like to write or memorize things. But by the end of the year i could see a confidence in my oldest son that I haven't seen since he started reading and I am very grateful!! The memorization was a struggle but then the confidence in himself and his abilities made it so much easier. He loved the spelling words in the back of the book, we made it a weekly thing with a test at the end of the week. I cant tell you how amazing it was to see his joy each time he got a 100 at the end of the week. Then, the fact that when he was writing he did not have to ask me to spell words anymore because he realized that he knew how to spell them.
Good
Review by ALM
It’s a good book for English, the layout it’s pretty clear. Which is good for me since I am not that great in English.
My kids' favorite subject
Review by Ellen
I've been using this curriculum for my kids since finding it in second grade. This is my kids' favorite subject, thanks to Master Books! My daughter especially likes following the ongoing story of the family at the beginning of each week's lessons.
Love this series
Review by Heather
My 3rd grader is currently using Level 3 and really enjoying it! It has been encouraging to watch her confidence in being more independent with her schoolwork develop this year and I think it is in part because of the gentle/open and go style of this series.
Easy to use
Review by Kelly
I believe with supplemental materials, this curriculum is decent. I do believe this curriculum by itself tends to lean on the easier side, so my advanced reader blows through these books really fast. I also feel there is not enough repetition when new grammar concepts are taught, hense why adding another curriculum that focuses on grammar and sentence structure practice would be very helpful with this book. I intend to use Living Lessons 4 with Writing Strands Beginner 1 next year.
Enjoying Language Arts more than before
Review by Elizabeth
My son had done a different LA that just didn't click well with him and I felt he was becoming frustrated and falling behind because it did not lay out rules or examples very clearly. He has adjusted incredibly well and has grown incredibly in his ability to write well and recognize proper techniques.
No more fighting!
Review by Kindel
It's great when my kids want to do more school in a day, or they don't want to take a day off! We no longer have to fight every day to do school!
My son loves this series
Review by Wemi
This is my son's favorite series from Master Books. He loves following stories about Claire and Micah! Great way to learn while feeling like you're reading a great story.
good book. Short lessons.
Review by Robin
Yes, it is open-and-go for the student, but make sure to check student work every day. There is not enough repetition in the curriculum to allow for too many mistakes.
