Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 4 teaches students to recognize types of verbs and verb agreement, plural pronouns, prefixes, contractions, synonyms, root words and more. Within the course, students will:

  • Master state of being verbs, action verbs, and possessive nouns

Language Lessons for a Living Education is uniquely effective in teaching communication skills and the Gospel. Wonderful!
Review by Lindsay
We used this with our oldest and loved it so much our youngest will be using it as well. We love that the Bible is incorporated so wonderfully through the lessons.
Love this
Review by Heather
Our daughter finished her grade 3 curriculum in March and started on this grade 4 LLFAL and really enjoys it. It’s not so strenuous as the curriculum she was using before - so it is fun for her. She loves the little “Bible” to read every few lessons. I like that it doesn’t take up too much time as we have incorporated Latin into our schedule this year which I feel goes hand in hand with learning the English Language rules.
Cant wait to start in the fall!
Review by Ashley
We are about to finish up level 3 and can’t wait to start level 4! I have already flipped through it and it looks great. As always the lessons aren’t too long and it is a nice step up from level 3 without being intimidating or overwhelming. There’s lots of review of topics covered from level 3 but looks like they are taking it a little deeper this year and doing more of their own creative writing as well. I love that we can still use our 101 favorite stories from the Bible book from level 3. This curriculum is so affordable and has been perfect for my daughter who is a struggling reader and writer!
Love it!
Review by Ellen
I've been using this curriculum for my kids since finding it in second grade. This is my kids' favorite subject, thanks to Master Books! I love it, too because it's easy to follow along so that my kids can almost exclusively do their language arts lessons independently and then just bring it to me to check their work.
Love this series
Review by Heather
We continue to love this language arts series! I used Level 4 with my 4th grade son last year. He has been a struggling reader/speller and this series has been great for him although he does need help with the reading and I often substituted something else for spelling. We discovered that he is likely dyslexic and so have taken a break from Language Lessons this year in order to focus more on helping him with reading in the way he learns best. He is doing great and we are looking forward to continuing with Language Lessons next year while implementing some of the techniques we’ve learned this year. Just an encouragement to others that it is ok to take a break, focus on reinforcement for a while and then come back to it!
This is our 3 year using this RLA curriculum
Review by Elizabeth
I like this workbook for my son. He has ASD, and this is a little more condensed for him. I do wish on certain days for more questions , as some of the day’s assignments seem a tad too short. Over all a quality, faith based curriculum.
Love it but wish I felt more confident in the core learning
Review by Wemi
My son absolutely loves this series. We use it as a supplement because I don't feel confident that it covers all the core basics he needs, perhaps that is the pro and con wrapped up in one. It feels so fun and easy and that leads to me questioning if we are truly getting a solid foundation but I would recommend it to others without a doubt.
Good material.... short lessons
Review by Robin
Short lessons lend themselves to breeze through. It can be argued that there is not enough practice in the curriculum to solidify the information in the student's brain. If parents and teachers understand this, they can take review time very seriously. But if you gloss through the course, without taking the time to digest it, they'll forget 75% of it. You could say this about many curriculum though.
Simple to use curriculum
Review by Ashley
I really like Language Lessons because of how simple it is. It helps to eleminate the struggle with my kid in doing her work since it does not take very long to complete. I do wish they would introduce spelling at the begginning of the week though, and maybe give simple optional spelling activites throughout the week. Although, they do have the optional activities listed in the back- which I do appreciate.
Great Resource
Review by Olurazhidaan
LLLE has been our consistent language learning resource since 2nd grade and has been impactful, easy to use and kept my daughter’s attention. My almost 7.5 year old is using level 4 for this school year, which in my opinion is equivalent to a strong 3rd grade language arts curriculum when used with most of the additional resources in the back of the book. We should be finishing up by the end of April or early May. I hesitate to give it 5 stars since I feel that the text lacks some vigor. Should definitely introduce the spelling words at the beginning of the lessons, not towords the end AND have multiple practice days to put these words to use. We have overcome this problem by introducing them on the first day and creating 2 reusable companion documents, which give her additional opportunities to use these words in a sentence and write/alphabetize them. I also conduct an additional spelling test every 3-4 lessons (chapters) for retention, as well as using the additional resources in the back of the book. That said, overall this curriculum is adaptable, convenient, teacher friendly, has great flow, and is beautifully planned out and written.
