Overview

As modern revisionists seek to minimize or erase all traces of America's Christian heritage, a very rare vintage biography sheds a remarkable light of truth on the life of our first president, George Washington! Originally translated into over 20 languages within a few years, the book was among the most widely-read biographies of Washington at the time.

In this special edition of a vintage 1842 original, readers will go beyond today's simple footnotes of this great leader, to discover the man behind the title of "Father of Our Country." From letters and personal accounts, a fuller and more accurate picture emerges of a man who lived by, and was led by, a deep and abiding faith.

Written by Anna C. Reed, niece of a signer of the Declaration of Independence who had met Washington personally and knew many of his close acquaintances , she authored this amazing work for the ASSU (American Sunday School Union) just prior to 1850. Originally translated into over 20 languages, the book was among the most widely read biographies of Washington at that time.

Excellent history from a Christian perspective
Review by JoyfulMommy
This book was originally published by the American Sunday School Union and has a very strong Christian perspective. I found it amazing that it was translated into over twenty languages within a few years of its initial publication in the early 1800’s. It begins with an overview of the early discovery and settlement of America, particularly the life of Christopher Columbus. I think his devotion to God and missionary mindset in the discovery of America can be somewhat controversial; but by tenth grade, students should be able to read various perspectives and draw their own conclusions. The character of George Washington is certainly exemplary and there is much to be learned from studying his life. I find this book inspirational and think it was a wonderful literature choice for this language level. Additionally, this book is reprinted in a neat, antique sort of way with old-fashioned illustrations and typeface.
Well Written
Review by Yulia
Life of Washington is a well written biography of George Washington. Anna C. Reed did a beautiful job telling the story of this important historical figure. Even though it was written in the language of that time, it is still fairly easy to follow. It was nice to read about Washington's faith, strong and godly character, devotion to God and leadership skills. it amazed me how honest, brave, clever and strong George Washington was. We can definitely learn a lot from him. This book is important to read for our growing generations to remember the foundation our country was build on. It is a must for every household.
Interesting Biography!
Review by Crystal
This is a really well written and interesting biography of our first president. It includes a lot of facts that I haven’t heard before and helps the reader better understand the character of George Washington. The book was originally written in 1842, and the text and cover give the feel of holding an old book. I love that this is the companion book to Language Lessons 10 and how the course helps the student to dig deeper into the biography.
Wonderful historical resource
Review by Dustie
This is the companion book for Language Lessons 10. It is an amazing book about the life of the first president of the Inited States, George Washington. It was written by a niece of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and originally published in 1842. This little treasure of a book is really an enjoyable read that gives a look at the man our first president was and the example he set for future generations of Americans. I really appreciate that it is a story of his life, his character, and his passion for liberty, not just a compilation of dates and historical facts. I also genuinely appreciate that it has not been modified to meet a popular narrative or erase pieces of history. Now I want the whole series of these biographical books.
