Missing some information, but great overviews overall
Review by Charity
These readers are great reference books for sharing the heroes of the faith with the next generation. There is a brief overview of each hero's life which is great for times that you don't want to dig quite as deep with a longer biography. The selections may be a bit long for younger students, since they are targeted for middle school + but I feel that most of the troubling events in this series are presented in a matter of fact and not overly graphic manner so they can easily be used for the whole family.

I was very excited to dig into the Missionaries for Christ book. Several of the missionaries were new to me, but many were familiar. Overall most of the accounts were very informative, but I was a bit disappointed that some important facts were left out of Adoniram Judson's story (more details on this in my review on the physical book product page.)
I didn't notice any errors with the other missionaries' accounts, but I have not researched them as thoroughly. Overall, we really love this series and would still recommend this book. Hopefully the issues mentioned above will be corrected in future printings.
Our Heroes!
Review by JoyfulMommy
When we study history, we learn about all sorts of people and events. The missionaries are our heroes and their legacy is enduring and eternal, while the kingdoms of men rise and fall. This beautiful, engaging, and informative book is a wonderful resource to add to our collection and gives us a brief look into these missionaries’ lives. Short profiles are laid out with a nice amount of text on the pages with beautiful illustrations. Learning about these men and women of faith, and witnessing the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives, fleshes out what Psalm 78:4 describes, telling “the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and His strength and His wondrous works that He has done.” I am grateful for this book, and pray our children will be inspired to imitate the faith of those gone before us and be missionaries for Christ wherever God sends them - in their home communities or across the globe! I know it inspires me to be more faithful about sharing Christ with those I come in contact with in everyday life.
Another great one!

I am loving this series by Marilyn Boyer! I really appreciate how this book can serve as an introduction to 10 great missionary lives. You can see how the Lord worked and used each one of them and it serves to encourage and excite others to allow the Lord to work in our own lives. This book can stand alone or also easily serve as a jumping off point for deeper studies into these lives!
Inspirational missionary biographies
Review by BuildingontheRock
Marilyn Boyer completes this four-book Legends of Faith Series with biographies of men and women who served as Christian missionaries in the late 1800s-1900s. From well-known missionaries like Amy Carmichael and Jim Elliot, to less familiar men and women such as Robert Moffat and Betty Greene, 10 biographies highlight the sacrifices these men and women made to spread the gospel of Christ throughout the world. The time period covered would make this a perfect companion reader to America’s Story 3. Engaging, informative, and thought provoking, this reader will introduce your children to missionaries and perhaps inspire them to consider laying down their lives to be one as well.
Great Introduction to Missionaries
Review by Barbara D
Continuing in the Legends of Faith series with the Missionaries for Christ. We have been loving this series so far and were excited to dig into another volume.
Though I have heard of several missionaries over the years, this book is a great introduction to many of them.
For my kids, this is a great introduction to some missionaries. As many of them have full books on, this book gives the reader an overview of their life to see if they want to study them deeper. Some missionary stories can be hard, but as a book for youth, it did not go into all detail for everything, but kept the main details there.
I was encouraged by all the stories of those who have given everything for Christ, and so are my kids. My kids love the story of Eric Liddell giving up being in the Olympics for Christ.
Even more encouraging for me is the effect of some of these missionaries had on what we can still see today.
great inspiration
Review by Samantha
It has always fascinated me to learn about the people who spread the Gospel far and wide. This books gives such beautiful details about the lives of those who have done it. It’s a great inspiration and encouragement to read all the different stories and the variety of lives lived. It is incredible to learn about the people God has chosen and that have headed His call to be missionaries.
Inspiring book for families
Review by SB
Missionaries for Christ tells the stories of ten missionaries, beginning with the story of Adoniram Judson, born in 1788, and ending with Brother Andrew, born in 1928. I really like the title pages for each chapter, with the helpful timeline and the map. The graphics and highlighted vocabulary words with definitions throughout the book are also helpful, as are the glossary and timeline at the end of the book. Overall, this is a great book to help us learn more about famous missionaries. I think it’s a great addition to our family’s library.
