Overview

This is a true story. It comes from Numbers Chapter 21 in your Bible.

In the Old Testament, we are reminded again and again through the stories that when God made a promise, He kept it. Even when the perfect Creation was ruined, God made a plan to save us from sin. He loved us enough to sacrifice something very special to Him.

In Numbers chapter 21 of the Bible, the story of Moses and the Bronze Serpent takes place during the Israelites' journey through the wilderness. The Israelites become discouraged and impatient, speaking against God and Moses. As a result, God sends poisonous snakes among them, and many people are bitten and die.

The Israelites realize their sin and repent, seeking Moses' intercession. Moses prays to God on their behalf, and God instructs him to make a bronze serpent and put it on a pole. God promises that whoever looks at the bronze serpent when bitten will live.

Moses follows God's instructions, crafting the bronze serpent and placing it on a pole. Anyone who is bitten by a snake and looks at the bronze serpent is miraculously healed and saved from death.

This story illustrates both the consequences of the Israelites' disobedience and God's mercy and provision. The bronze serpent serves as a symbol of God's healing power and the necessity for faith and obedience. Later in the New Testament, Jesus references this event, comparing it to his own crucifixion, where he becomes the ultimate remedy for sin and death, offering salvation to all who look to him in faith.

Adorable Bible Story Book
Review by Dustie
This is a great little book that retells the biblical account of Moses and the bronze snake. The author does a fantastic job of telling the story in a way small children can understand. It weaves in the message of salvation and the parallels between this story and Jesus. The illustrations are colorful. These little books make a fun addition to a home library, and they would make a nice gift.
Directs us to the Gospel
Review by JoyfulMommy
C.H. Spurgeon once quoted a story in which an older preacher gave this advice to a young man just beginning his ministry. “Don’t you know, young man, that from every town and every village and every hamlet in England, wherever it may be, there is a road to London? So from every text of Scripture there is a road to Christ. And my dear brother, your business is, when you get to a text, to say, now, what is the road to Christ? I have never found a text that had not got a road to Christ in it, and if ever I do find one, I will go over hedge and ditch but I would get at my Master, for the sermon cannot do any good unless there is a savor of Christ in it.”

I love how this book points to the gospel, tying into Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus and showing how the story of Moses lifting up the serpent in the wilderness so people could “look and live” really points to how God gave His Son to be “lifted up” on the cross, so that any who look to Him in repentance and faith can be saved and have eternal life. It makes the Old Testament story relevant to us today as it connects the historical account to the gospel and the unchangeableness of God. I think that having children’s books that do this helps to establish that pattern as we read other Old Testament Bible stories and look for how they point to Christ.

Our third grade daughter really enjoyed reading this to her younger siblings. The reading level was simple for her to read aloud smoothly and kept the younger children’s interest. All of them were very engaged looking for the hidden pictures throughout. Our fourth grade daughter enjoyed it but didn’t care for the illustration style as she thought it was “strange.” I admit it isn’t my favorite style either, but it does fit the design of the books and the younger children liked the pictures. I’m glad Master Books is offering these books and think they will be a blessing to many!
