Good resource to have for beginning social studies
Review by TIL
I have used My Story levels 1 and 2 when my now teens with several learning disabilities and Autism we're in elementary. I will be using level k with my neuro typical 5 yr old daughter, but also have my 14 yr old with autism sit in with us during lessons because she still could benefit from some of these topics and concepts. Like with most masterbooks curriculum I find My Story to be adaptable for individual needs and different
learning styles. Skip over parts that don't fit well now, and maybe come back to it later (even in a yr or 2) if this is too wordy right for your child. For example I also a have a 4 yr old that this will not be a good fit for a few yrs because she has significant language delays(expressive and receptive)and comprehension difficulties, and symptoms of autism like my teens had. However if the 4 yr old wants to be near or sit close during these lessons we welcome that. You never know just how much they may be soaking in without you realizing! Be encouraged if your child has significant learning struggles. Your homeschooling can be adapted to their individual needs.
Sweet introduction to social studies
Review by AM
I was on the fence about even doing social studies for kindergarten, but my child wanted to copy an older sibling, so I got My Story K, and I'm so glad we did it! This is a very gentle, sweet introduction to social studies. The workload is very light, and can be spread out over four days instead of two if the reading is a bit much on day 1. It's also very flexible, so we switched the order of the activities at times to have a bit less reading earlier. We've especially appreciated the flexibility because we were able to spread each lesson out early in the year, but we've actually completed two lessons a week as we've reached the end of the year. The activities were age-appropriate, and my child loved the silly poems for the My Book time. The food time is a really fun introduction to different foods around the world, and we make the naan bread regularly!
It's go time!

Pros:
- we loved the flash cards
- loved the introduction to different languages, cultures, different vocations, and maps
- Pro tip, get a map from Voice of the Martyrs and pray for each persecuted country as you come to it in the class

Cons:
-the poetry in the book they have your child make for the class is quite bad
-there was a lot of coloring and drawing which my little one does not enjoy doing, an alternative craft or activity would be nice
-the day 2 of each week felt a little less useful/ productive than day 1
Loving this already!!

This has become very quickly my daughter's favorite! I loved social studies and history as a kid , so to see my children fall in love with learning about other cultures and their own family has been a beautiful blessing! The worksheets are amazing and she loves it!
Good And Simple Intro to Social Studies
Review by Kathleen
This is a good book to introduce your kindergartner to social studies. It really got my son thinking about cultures around the world. He loved learning about the different ways to say “thank you” in other languages. We also both found the pictures to be beautiful and engaging conversation starters. However, I didn’t feel like there was enough content my son actually learned this year. It felt like there was too much “fluff” with the coloring and silly poems. This is good for kindergarten because of the pictures and conversations it starts, but I’m wary of purchasing any more books in this series.
so many nice parts

This book included vocab, maps, scripture and introduction to other languages. We really enjoyed doing this together the about me book wasna bit odd for my tastes but my daughter enjoyed completing it.
Good intro

This was not our favorite study & we really struggled through it. For a 5 yo it was just a lot of reading and didn’t hold his attention well. The book was very conveniently laid out though, as are all of the MB books we’ve studied so far, and full of good information for a history introduction.
PERFECT FOR US
Review by Lucia
Ok, so I wanted a social studies curriculum that would expose my son to a LOT of new and interesting social studies concepts, like language, culture, arts, food, etc, and this did EXACTLY THAT in such a SWEET & BEAUTIFUL way. I adore this curriculum. I think this was actually my favorite curriculum for grade k of any subject. I enjoyed that each lesson had a new set of vocabulary, a different country to identify on the map, a new language to hear of, and all other sorts of interesting fun facts and useful and CHRISTIAN focus. This curriculum is an excellent and light “spine” textbook which can serve as a starting off point to deeper conversations. Ex, I would preview the months lessons, and pick out some fun themes I saw as I skimmed, and then when we went to th library, I’d pick out a few books to add to each weeks theme. (Not at all necessary, but to us, it was FUN.) the curriculum is deep enough that your child will learn of all sorts of new topics but light enough that it can hold a 4 year olds interest as you read to them, and if needed you can easily complete the weeks lessons in one go. All in all, I LOVED the information presented, found it incredibly wholesome and helpful to my child’s education, and lots of fun for the whole family to listen in on and learn from. It’s an excellent grade k curriculum. I highly recommend it!
Nice but simple

Love the pictures and concepts but felt it was too basic even for my kindergartens. I would do it again for pre-school instead.
Great content...just not a great fit for his learning style.
Review by TisforTeacherMama
My child is more visual and hands-on. We started this book when he was 5.5 years old. I think I would have waited until he was 6.5. That being said it just didn't fit his learning style is great when learning about the cultures!
