Pilgrim's Progress: The Journey Journal

I would like to share my thoughts on The Pilgrims Progress Journal. So far, it seems quite intriguing and possesses a charming fairytale-like quality that has certainly captured our interest. My family has been eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to engage with this journal, and we are genuinely excited to begin our journey with it next month. We feel that it might be more accessible if it were written in modern English rather than Old English. Additionally, we have some concerns regarding certain illustrations of women, including those depicted as godly figures, which appear to have a slightly suggestive tone. Specifically, we’ve noticed that some details in the bustline area may come across as less modest than what we would typically expect from a Christian curriculum, particularly on pages 118, 140, 168, and 196. Thank you for taking the time to consider my feedback.

I purchased this to use as a read aloud with my children (middle school and upper elementary). They are not strangers to the vocabulary of early modern English as seen in Pilgrim's Progress, but certainly often need help with some of the vocabulary. This journal is amazing. It is so helpful with the added vocabulary. The articles that help provide context are excellent. I have read Pilgrim's Progress many times, and learned additional context myself. I cannot recommend this enough.

Opening this journal gives you this feel like you are opening an old, treasured text. Little details were not overlooked a bit when designing this journal. Every page has an aged linen look that just makes you want to dive in.
Pilgrim's Progress is very well known as a rich book, not only in literary elements but in scriptural significance. I feel like this journal does a great job at taking you through each section of the book and making it a little easier to interpret. The 'Words to Know' at the beginning of each section explain and define difficult words within that section. There is a summary at the end of each section to write what you think along with beautiful illustrations to accompany it. My favorite part of this journal is the Biblical reference notes on the side of many of the words within Pilgrim's progress. It gives you a place to go back to God's word and see where this information is found within the Bible.
Finally, the index in this journal is on of the most comprehensive I have seen in a while. It would make using this journal as a guide for research papers a lot easier on your student!

I was expecting a journal/workbook that would be used with the Pilgrim's Progress curriculum. What I got was so much more. This is perfect! The entire text of Pilgrim's Progress is in this journal. I wish this had been available when my oldest four went through this, but now I will be using it with the younger six.

The layout is excellent and the journal is perfect for students of any age as they read and contemplate the lesson contained in Pilgrim's Progress.

I wish we had this when my oldest read Pilgrims Progress the first time! I love it. The layout is amazing. I love that it includes a words to know section, memory verse and summaries in each chapter. The applicable verses alongside and plenty of space for notes is wonderful. I honestly can’t wait for my son to read through this again using this journal next year in 9th grade!

This journal includes the full text of Pilgrim’s Progress. This story recounts the journey that Christian makes from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City, along with the many encounters he has along the way.
This story reveals the authors belief in the absolute authority of scripture. It includes a strong emphasis on atonement and conversion. The difficulty of Christian life and it’s many trials are shown throughout the story. Pilgrim’s Progress not only prepares us to live a Christian life, it also prepares us to die a Christian death.
What this journal includes:
-beautiful sketches which give you plenty of opportunity to add color as you reflect on the story. I used my colored pencils and I love how the drawings now leap of the page
- plenty of space for making notes or adding drawings
-helpful definitions
-memory verses- it is suggested to write them on index cards so that you have them to flip through. I did that and now have so many beautiful verses to review


My favorite part of this is the summary page for each page. It helped me to not only write what the chapter was about but more so to write how that chapter impacted me right now. It was amazing to be able to relate each chapter in some way to times and people in my life.
This journal will be incorporated into Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 9 but it is absolutely worth using it on its own as well. This should be a must have for any high school student. I highly recommend it for adults as well, I thoroughly enjoyed going through this book.

This book Consists of 39 chapters. I love this Journal. It not only a reader but on the sides of the reading it has a place for you to take notes and jot down what you want to remember or thoughts about your reading. It also has a place for a summary after each chapter so one can sum up their reading about that chapter. I think this would be a great addition to anyones library.

Pilgrim’s Progress is a book that we all love in my family, it is truly a classic. When I saw that it had been published in a journal format, I just had to have it to add to our collection. As someone who loves to take notes and mark up as I read, this edition does not disappoint.

This Journey Journal includes the full text of Pilgrim’s Progress, but improves upon the reading experience in so many ways. There are either lines or a large margin space for note-taking, as well as lines at the end of each chapter for summary notes. The illustrations are beautiful, done in outline format, perfect for coloring in for those that enjoy that in their journaling.

I LOVE that Language Lessons for a Living Education, Level 9 is going to guide students through Pilgrim’s Progress, and this Journey Journal would be the perfect companion to it! As would it be as a stand alone study guide, too, as it includes words to know at the start of each chapter, memory verses, scripture annotations in the margins, and insights to further explain the message of this great classic.

This is perfect for any student or adult looking to deepen their experience as they travel through this classic.

I wish this book was around the first time I read Pilgrim’s Progress! The journaling approach really helps the reader to engage with the story, understand some of the more archaic language through vocabulary, and fully see the connection with Scripture. The journal itself lends itself to slowing down in order to understand and respond to the text. Although this book was designed for high schoolers, I can see adults enjoying and appreciating this book as well.

The journal is attractive and well designed. The illustrations throughout help to clarify the story. I love how the author was able to take such an important, but difficult to understand book, and give the reader all the necessary tools to understand it.

I was looking forward to using this with Language Lessons 9 with my son, but I may not be able to wait that long to get started!

This Journal is beautifully done! Some things I've especially appreciated are: summary notes section, corresponding Bible passages on a side of each section, an explanation of each chapter and that each chapter started with a memory verse in the theme of that chapter.

Words to know section and explanations of allegory are very helpful in understanding the allegory even deeper.

I enjoyed this journal and think it will be a great study in combination with the Language Arts for Living Education level 9 or even on its own. It is perfect for high schoolers and even adults.
