Inspire Confidence in Math

Mathematical terms and concepts can seem so complex and intimidating as students transition from the upper elementary years to Jr High. Katherine Hannon's down-to-earth style and conversational tone sets students at ease and inspires them to approach all those terms and concepts with confidence. She imparts an understanding that each simply describe a useful tool we can put to use in everyday life, history, science, art, music, and more!

Engaging, Conversational Lessons

Principles of Mathematics focuses on mathematical concepts and emphasizes the practical application of it. Students learn both the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of math through engaging, conversational lessons. This approach firms up foundational math concepts and prepares students for upper-level math in a logical, step-by-step way. This helps the student understand concepts, build problem-solving skills, and see how different aspects of math connect.

Incredibly Faith Building

“Every time you solve a math problem, you’re relying on the underlying consistency present in math. Any time you see that math still operates consistently, it’s testifying that God is still on His throne, faithfully holding all things together.” – Katherine Hannon

In Principles of Mathematics Book 1, each lesson and exercise leads the student towards understanding the character and attributes of God through the study of math history, concepts, and application.

Principles of Mathematics Book 1 goes beyond adding a Bible verse or story to math instruction, it actively teaches and describes how the consistencies and creativity we see in mathematical concepts proclaim the faithful consistency of God Himself and points students towards understanding math through a Biblical worldview.

Math that works!!
Review by Mom of 8
So we started 13 weeks ago with abeka math for 7th grade. I realized right away we have a problem too much work, too confusing to teach and he was frustrated. He kept on about his love for all MB and we immediately switched out the math and what a relief. This math is straight forward easy to use and he loves it . No stress. We even purchased the MB online academy to go with it and she is amazing. Everything about the entire book and academy are above what we expected and will continue on.
A great launch point

This year, we transitioned from the elementary math course to the Principles of Math course. We have loved it. The foundation my son received in previous years was invaluable and has allowed him to understand and move smoothly throughout this course. It is a blessing to position him for more difficult math in the future.
love pom 1

Shorter lessons help my daughter stay focused and not get stressed or over stimulated.
great math curriculum
Review by Annamarie
My daughter started 7th grade and she is doing great with this curriculum. It does have a good bit of reading in each lesson but it is broken down into simple steps to help her learn the process of each problem. Will definitely be getting the second level next year as well!
I like the layout
Review by Hess Family
I personally liked the lessons and the layout for this course, however it did not work for my son. I would still recommend this math curriculum and add the academy lessons to go with it.
Exactly what we needed
Review by Kelli
This curriculum is put together very well! It's easy to follow and there's plenty of review to help students retain what they've previously learned I love all the quizzes and exams because it I feel like it helps me really gauge how much my son is learning. The practical approach and how each principle applies to everyday life makes understanding so much easier. The Master Books Academy course that you can purchase separately has also been a HUGE help! I definitely recommend adding it as well.
Great for homeschool moms not confident in math
Review by Corrie
As someone who struggled with math in school, I was nervous about math as my son moved toward middle and high school. This curriculum has literally been an answer to prayer. It explains everything thoroughly, but does not overwhelm with too many new concepts at one time. Math used to be an all-day struggle for us using other curriculums, but my son is learning not to fear and dread math now that we are using MasterBooks math.
thorough and not overwhelming!
Review by S
My daughter has tried various math programs and this has by far been the best fit yet. I first used POM with my oldest son who is very math minded and is ahead, and we loved the biblical foundation this math provides and the uniqueness' of this program to bring the Lord into all parts of math and to make it makes sense for my kids biblically. My daughter is not strong in math but this program, paired with the academy videos have been so wonderful for her, not only is she understanding, she is thriving AND enjoying math for the first time.
Not for kids who are ahead
Review by Kandi
We've mostly used Abeka and wanted to try something new. After reading all of the reviews I decided to give it a try. My son and I didn't like this math curriculum at all. My son got bored and wanted something else. I was trying to keep him motivated and just push through, but he hated it. We tossed it and bought Abeka again. I wanted to like it... But, I didn't.
POM 1
Review by Nikki
I love the POM for my sixth grader. Things in math that I didn’t totally grasp as a child, have been made much clearer by learning the principles behind the math. Definitely grateful I went with this for my child.
