Customer Reviews
As far as the illustrations, I think they are clear & lovely & not distracting from the words whatsoever. We are so, so pleased to have this set on our book shelf!
I enjoy reading them to accompany our history studies, but my boys also like to just sit down and read them during their free reading time.
In addition to the stories there are some great vocabulary words that are explained in the sidebars.
I especially appreciate the vocabulary and glossary sections that introduce new or unfamiliar words, as well as the way each chapter begins by telling when and where the person lived. This makes it easy to connect what we are reading with our history studies, timelines, and mapping activities as well.
These books can be used in so many ways, including language arts, history, family read-aloud time, research, or independent reading. The colorful layout makes them appealing for students who already enjoy reading but also for those who may need a little extra encouragement.
