    The first third of the book talks about why this topic is important, and it introduces Christianity. There are chapters about the Catholic and Orthdox churches. I did appreciate those chapters, though I did feel I needed to detour a bit and we dug into some additional information for both.

    The rest of the book gets into most of the religions you would think about for a comparative religions course: Islam and Judaism in particular. This volume covers Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormonism. Those all have fairly lengthy chapters, and these four are roughly 1/4 of the book. The final portion tends to be shorter chapters on other things I'm at least somewhat familiar with, though the kids weren't necessarily: Baha'i, Deism, Satanism, Freemasonry, Zoroastrianism, and Moonies. The only world religion covered that I really didn't know anything about was the Worldwide Church of the Creator.

    What a fascinating collection of thorough discriptions of the religions of the world. With an amazing and precise outlining of the beliefs of Biblical Christianity as a comparison. Each chapter describes the specific religion, has a comparative list of main points in which they differ, and are very clear. I thought it would be dry, but found myself intrigued with the religions of friends and family that I hadn’t before then had any understanding of. An amazing shoring up of knowledge to use in apologetics to help others.

    This is an invaluable resource and will give your student a good understanding of the differences in the most common world religions including Islam, Catholicism, Judaism, Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witness, and others. I especially like that the author identified the differences between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. I’m a former missionary and I have served in over 20 nations. Unfortunately Catholicism is leading many simple people astray and most believers assume they are Christians too.

    World Religions and Cults is a 3-volume series of books, each divided into a subcategory. Volume 1 is a 425 page book that deals with counterfeits of Christianity. The religions discussed within its covers are: Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Islam, Jehovah's Witnesses, Judaism, Mormonism, The Baha'i Faith, Deism, Satanism, Freemasonry, Zoroastrianism, Worldwide Church of the Creator (The Creativity Movement), and Moonies/The Unification Church.

    This is more than a book series that discusses the differences between religions and the whys behind varying practices. Its basis is from a presuppositional apologetics stance; God's Word is the absolute authority. Hodge and Patterson detail the origins of religions and take on secular religions (in another volume). In the most basic of terms, World Religions and Cults is separating God's Word and Man's Word. The reader will discover what defines various world religions, lesser-known religions, cults, and philosophical systems. Understanding worldviews and the fact that everyone holds presuppositions is key to seeing viewpoints of others and testing everything based on God's Word.

    This is the first book of a series of three. It allows you to compare so many of the various religions to a Biblical Christian worldview. It is a fantastic resource for both adults and for homeschool use. From a homeschool standpoint, it is probably best at a high school level. There are multiple authors and I feel like this gives a much more well-rounded viewpoint on the various religions. I think this is a must-read for Christians today. There is so much background and information on each religion and its origin, and the text is very, very thorough. It shows how some are related to Christianity and how they are different and where those changes happened and what they are. If you are using for homeschool, I highly recommend the teacher's guide as a companion.
